Vitamins?
« on: February 26, 2012, 08:32:21 am »
Okay, I think I am the only person on the plant with this problem. I can not swallow large or medium pills. They have to be small or chopped up. So I can not find any vitamins that are small and you just have to take more of them. So I am 27 and can't take vitamins. Had two kids and couldn't take any pre-natal vitamins. And now I have a personal trainer that wants me to take them, so I asked if they were small. He said they were so I ordered them, THEY AREN'T. Is there anyone who knows of any women's pills that are small to take? I really need help!

I have many oncology patients, both young and old(er), who cannot swallow large pills/vitamins. Why don't you try the adult Vitacraves or a similar product? They are just like gummie bears, taste pretty good, and all you have to do is chew and swallow! Almost every company that makes vitamins now has chewable wafers and/or ones that you simply have to dissolve in your mouth before swallowing and those come in a variety of flavors. You might have to pay a bit more, but it's worth it in the long run. Just remember, you need to eat healthy 'foods' also. Vitamins cannot do it all and many need food in your system for proper absorption. :)

Also, you could check out liquid vitamins, they also absorb into your system very quickly.

I always try and shoot for the gummy ones but if not, and this might sound a bit gross, I take them while I'm eating. I chew my food as I normally would and right before I swallow, I shove the pill in the middle of the food chunk, swallow, and finish eating. It was the only way I could take my prenatals and those thing were HUGE.

Hi,
I also have trouble swallowing pills.  Have you tried chopping up the Flinstone children's vitamins?

Thank you guys so much! Those are great tips I didn't know about liquid vitamins, or that they come in wafers. So as not to waste money I think I will try chewing them or grinding them into my yogurt fits, since I already bought them. I just wish sometimes you could see the size inside first, cause some of the ones you need the bottle is white. So there is no way to tell. So where do you go to get the liquid or wafer?

You may just have to chop them up.  I have a friend who has this problem and she just crushes them and puts them in a liquid and drinks it.

You can buy the wafers, gummy types, chewable tablets, and [some of] the liquid types in any drug store, large grocery store, or health food store. They are made by many reputable companies and the store brands are also very good, but you may not find they all come in those forms. The liquid is the easy way out, but the number of drops you need per day, size of the bottles, and price will mean more money out of your pocket. The only thing about the liquid that I don't like is the fact that you have got to be very accurate/careful when using them because it is fairly easy to develop vitamin toxicity which is no laughing matter. It can actually kill you and/or do longterm damage to organs. Part of the reason is that they are absorbed so quickly and if you aren't careful with measuring or counting with the ones that use a dropper, you can cause some problems for yourself in a short amount of time. I hope this helps you out a bit more. ;)

I really have trouble swallowing pills, so for vitamins, I take liquid vitamins.  They dissolve quickly and I also have trouble with vitamin C and with liquid vitamin I do not have any trouble.
