The real problem: Bullies are everywhere- At school, at work, at the supermarket, in the parking lot and yes- sometimes at home!

Bullies are like serial killers; they look and act like normal people, it's how they act to others that will make them stand out. Other than that, the school can't do anything about it.

This is NOT a new problem.  It used to be much worse. Kids are basically spineless now. They are sheltered and for some reason they are all "special".

I agree completely..... When I was in school if someone was messing with you the only way it would stop is if you stood up for yourself. It is a tragedy that children now feel like they have to kill themselves to escape it.

I think bullies in school are ridicouls now. It causes a lot of problems with the children being bullied. i nvere really see much being done about it. I think there should be strick conciquences for bullies. I dont think its fare to the kids that are not capable of protecting themselves.

I don't know where people get this idea that bullying isn't punished.  A bully is often suspended, sent to detention, or have his parents called.

The knee jerk reaction now is over "cyber bullying"
Cyber bullying is BS!

When I was in second grade, a 6th grader pushed me down in the hall every day. When I was in ninth grade the 12th grade football players gave me a swirlie, (put my head in the toilet and flushed it)
I would have LOVED if instead of these thing they wrote me a F-ing letter!

Cyber bullied?  Please. So you get an e-mail that has the subject line "HEY DORK"  guess what??? DON'T OPEN IT!

Every kid doesn't deserve a first place trophy.  If a kid is bullying other kids it is because he has crappy parents. If a kid is bullying your kid it is because you have not given him/her REAL confidence.

Yes they should because it makes students scared about going to school and weary about doing good in school because they could be a potential target of a bully.

What should they do?  Suspend the kid?  Expel him? THEY DO THAT!  If a kid bullies hits another kid or "beats him up", the DO punish the aggressor.  It's not like schools don't punish the bully.

With the rapid progression of violence in younger ages, I do think schools should work against bullying going on.  The school is not a babysitter though.  The teachers may see a bit of it, but they don't know what happened prior to the incident.  It makes it hard to intervene sometimes... other than to stop the immediate situation.  I do believe if students used the legal ramifications against true bullies, then the cost to the bully child's parents will assist in getting him some discipline at home.  This can work at earlier ages, but once it hits the high school ages this can backfire.  It's like when a teen commits a crime, and he see's himself as the tough guy.  If someone tells on him and he finds out who it was, retribution comes into play. The kids know this.  Best time to stop bullying is in grade school.  You can still make an impression at that age.

I don't think that lock down is necessary for bullies. Something like lock down is intended for emergencies that actually endanger the students life. Bullies are everywhere and you can't avoid them. Staff members and parents should be the ones dealing with bullies. Usually bullies don't have enough discipline in their lives. They think they can do whatever they please. In my opinion, just workout and learn how to fight. If those two facts are known, most likely you will get less bullied.
