Cost of cell phone ridiculous

I am on my daughter's cell phone bill.  When it is time for a new phone, either she or my granddaughter get the latest ones.  Mine is just a plain cell phone, no bells or whistles.  My phone is old and is drying.  I can only call out.  My daughter took the phone to the cell phone store and they informed her it would cost me $200 to get a new phone.  All I want is a basic phone!!!  They said we would be eligible for a new phone in a few weeks.  I have no idea how much that one will cost.  I guess I get the new one this time.  Why can't you replace a basic phone for just a few dollars?  $200 is outrageous!

I finally just broke off my long relationship with US Cellular.  They really had no respect for my 12 year commitment and were the most expensive out there.  Switched to TMobile for two days, good price, but ZERO reception at my hubby's work.  I'm pregnant, so that didn't work.  Now with Sprint.  Like them, decently priced I suppose.  Could be a tad bit cheaper, but you do get a very comparable price, if not better.  I just think all of it costs way too much.  If I knocked out my cell phones and my cable/internet, I'd save $300+ a month.

that is some really crazy *bleep* $200 to replace a phone. is that with or without insurance? and who do you have? i had to replace my phone once it cost me $50

The reason why its going to cost so much to replace your phone is because your contract is not finished yet. If you want to go get a feature phone it will not cost you $200 unless you get it off contract. Your daughter was probably looking at a smartphone on contract. Those are going to cost upwards of $200 unless you get an older phone. Good luck!

You have not said what cell carrier you use - can make a big difference. Go online and lots of companies have a link that tells you when you are due for another phone. Then you can look at phones, and the webpage should tell you what the phone should cost if you got it now and signed another contract. Look online yourself before ou let your blood pressure rise too much with the $200 quote. She may have gotten the newest phone that she wanted quoted to her not what you want.

i use to have verizon and had 5 phones it cost me a small mint just for everyone in the house to have a cell phone then we switched to metro pc no contracts and the phones are not that much either ,one small price and you get web text and calling all unlimited..best deal

Do you really need a cell phone? Whatever happened to those days long ago when if you were not home people called back, if u were out you used a pay phone if you needed to make a call.  Why do we need to available to anyone 24/7 Owned a cell once got rid of it in less than a week.  Life is less hectic and I have more me time without one.

I do like the convenient of having a cell phone, but the cost is too high.
I no longer sign monthly contracts with the cell phone carriers and use prepaid phone compnay.
Yes, the phones aren't as good, but the price are more affordable and it does the job, too.

$50/month with MetroPCS...I'd like to upgrade for better internet speed but hey that's what my laptop is for

When my contract is up with Verzion and am going to get the Straight Talk from Walmart.  Will be $45 month which is half what I am paying now just to talk, no bells and whistles and with Straight Talk you will get internet and text.  Wish I had got that when I got this one.  May God bless each of you and keep you safe.   Have a nice day.

Cell phone use isn't good for your health. I have seen videos of people who got brain tumors from radiation.
 I got a Panasonic cordless phone set and bought a few EMF protection shield buttons.
I don't have monthly fees.

if you're eligible in a few weeks...what carrier do you use? i'm currently paying $220 a month for our plan. I know it sounds like a lot BUT that is covering 4 phones on a family plan, sharing 1500 minutes a month, which we only use maybe 400 minutes combined, as our plan covers unlimited calling to any cell phone on any network..incoming out outgoing.  we also get unlimited sms texts and mms texts ...and unlimited internet.  three of our phones are smart phones, so that alsoooo is including the $10 fee per phone that pretty much every carrier charges now for smart phones.  my mom is using just a plain flip phone, sprint gave us that one for adding her onto our family plan, and as it's not a "fancy" style phone, she got it free of charge.  if thats the type that you want, that does pretty much nothing but call people...lots of carriers have them at no charge to upgrade to it when your contract is out.  they just dont advertise it, you have to ask them lol.  hope this helps!

Yes cell phones are to high.  I hate that you have to sign a two year contract I think they should just let us pay month to month.  Why are there prices so high anyways?  With all the people using cell phones I bet they are making a bundle and they could afford to cut back on prices or make better deals for people who need the phone and can't afford their prices.  I know my house phone has a program if you are low income or get some kind of government funds like ssi or medicaid, food stampls they give you a break my bill would normanly be 25 but after my discound I only pay 11 which is great.
