Earthquakes: Are you prepared?
« on: April 17, 2012, 10:18:10 am »
This morning I'm listening to the news where they're talking about...

The Great Utah Shakeout.  Apparently that's what they've named a state-wide drill.

When I was school age (a long time ago) they didn't discuss the "drop, cover and hold" concept.  It's something
they teach students now to help them protect their head, neck and heart while the earth is shaking.

Have you ever experienced an earthquake?  If so...were you prepared?

Have a great day!

In Minnesota, it is very unlikely that we will experience an earthquake.

Back in the 60's I was in the bath room and felt the house shake.  I thought it was the wind tunnal at the airforce plant that was testing airplanes.  I walked down the hall and saw the lamp shaking on the table.  I turned on the tv and the news said an earthquake had happened in north east Tennessee.  They said the elaviters in the building in Nashville had was shaken.  My Mother and Father was in the on the road to Nashville and they said they did not feel in anything.   I had just dreamed a few weeks before that that we had an earthquake.  Boy, it was scarry.  There was no damage here.  Several years later my daughter and her family lived in Cleveland, Tennesse and they had an earthquake there.  They are getting where there are more now than in the past.  May God bless each of you and keep you safe.

I live in Florida, so I've never experienced an earthquake.  Have been through multiple hurricanes, though, and we're not as well prepared for that as we should be.  At least with hurricanes there's plenty of time to prepare for one.

Not necessarily.  There was a earthquake that was felt all the way here in Michigan.

And no, I wasn't really prepared for it.  Though I was driving at the time so it didn't really matter.

I live in California and in Earthquake territory. I have certain contingency plans, but I don't think I will ever be fully prepared and who knows where and when this will strike?

nobody likes disasters nor special calamities but we need to know the drills when it happens may it be fire, tornado or yes, earthquakes...  :crybaby2:

I am from Japan so I have experienced earthquake many times.
I'm going back to Japan to see my family and friends this summer, with my little girl.
I have never been stayed Japan more than 2 weeks since I moved to the states 8 years ago. But this time we will stay for 6 weeks. I'm nervous if earthquake happens.

I went through hurricane katrina so my husband and I have come up with a broad spectrum emergency plan and kit. Of course knowing now what I went through before it also included weapons.

I must admit to being totally unprepared for disaster.  In western Missouri, we are more likely to have a tornado although we do have the New Madrid fault line in southern Missouri.

I live in Texas right smack dab in the middle of Tornado Alley.  We always hope for the best and prepare for the worst.  So yes if an earthquake shakes we will be as ready as we are for any other thing that mother nature feels she needs us to expierence.  And yes we have small earthquakes here.
