MY SON HAS AUTISM!!!IT'S A HARD LIFE....
« on: April 17, 2012, 11:24:40 pm »
Does anyone have a child with autism.
I have a son Anthony who is in his own world.
He does not sleep he struggles every day with his autism.
He is 17 but in reality he is like a a 4 yr old child.
He goes to a special learning school where he is doing well.
But it's such a hard like for us all!!!
I also have a 9yr old son who just wants to play and hang out with his older brother.
But like I said anthony is in his own world.
Anthony loves to watch dvd's all day when he is home.

he has been doing this since he was 2 yrs old..
In the autism world this is called sameness!!!!

My wife and myself Lives have changed. We live for my son Anthony...
We don't even bother with close family members any more because they just don't understand.
So we would just rather stay home...
I wish I could give Anthony my brain....

Sorry I'm just venting here....... ???

My nephew is Autistic and my sister is losing it more everyday. He is 4 years old....She is slipping away further and further. I know it is hard when your child has a disability but you can't let it take over you as my sister has...She in herself has lost her grip on reality... I am afraid she will never be the same. He does not sleep well so neither does she. She isn't taking care of herself. Not eating, not sleeping... How can you care for your children if you don't care for yourself. Especially one that is Autistic. She has help, he has all sorts of therapies and goes to school. What can I do to help her more? I myself has two children and one of my nephew living with me.... I really think she needs a therapist too. Is this something that you do? Please let me know how I can be more helpful to her.

Though I don't have a child with autism...my husband has a special needs adopted sister. She's 40 and has the mind of a 9 year old. She's completely deaf, her eyesight is almost completely gone and has serious mental problems that requires medications. She does live in a group home because of needing 24/7 watching....behavioral issues. We bring her home once a month for the weekend and longer stays for holidays.

Though you love your child, taking care of someone with special needs is very demanding and just plain exhausting. I know what you're going through. God bless.

That is just ver very Sad, why do you say your family don't understand?  :'( My brother in-law has an autism child. He will never accept his condition. His boy is 10 yrs old. My in-law does not live with him or his mother. He visits them everyday, but do not bring them home. I think he is afraid we might not accept him or understand him. I found out his boy is autism because his mom has a facebook profile and I see all her postings. She supports her child 100%. I wish I could help some how. I have a 12 yr old son that asks why his cousin never visits.

You see there is a story behind  this. My in-law (age 40 at that time) got this 20 yr old pregnant. My mother in law never liked her. Now my mother in-law passed away and this child has never been in the family  :'(

May God always guide you and your wife always to the best of your child's care. God bless.

It sounds like you are an attentive parent who will do the research and work it takes to engage your child as much as you can.  That being said, the most important thing I can probably tell you is not to be too hard on yourselves.  It is not going to be easy and you are not always going to do everything perfectly, just like every other person in life!  He is loved, which goes a long way.  He does not have to be like everyone else to experience his own sort of love and acceptance.  Don't forget to live with joy!  It is healing and therapeutic for everyone!

kudos to you for reaching out in what is a pretty safe community from what I've seen so far. I'm sure this is your first step toward creating a supportive network that will understand and encourage you when it gets hard-and share your happiness when you can just enjoy your sons' presence in your lives without his condition dictating the terms of your relationship. Enjoy the time you have together!  God Bless.

I don't know the pain you are going through, but may have some ideas.  I have a brother who has special needs.  He speaks and talks like a child and enjoys activities of a younger child even though he is 43.  He does maintain a job and was diagnosed as a child as having an audio processing disability.  I would guess now that he may be diagnosed with aspergers or high functioning autism.

I have a son who suffers from anxiety and depression and probably also has some level of adhd.  Many of his difficulties are similar to those that have autism.  Extended family doesn't always understand.  I feel your pain.  Perhaps you can join a group of parents that are also dealing with an autistic child and you might gain a support system moving forward.

I wish the best for you and your family.  I will pray for you.
