Grammar and typos, could we avoid them?
« on: April 18, 2012, 03:27:41 am »
There is a plethora of grammar checking programs, mostly built in to your word processing app that people use in daily life.  Why is it when I read news articles, especially online and surf numerous websites, I find it hard to understand the point the author is getting at?  I know that I'm not the only one who feels this way!  It's like the emperor's new clothes, we are all thinking it.  I am no writing genus or a savant of any kind, I can't spell to save my life, I just want to make sure I understand correctly.  It makes me wonder do people care what they are writing about or is time too precious?  If I could work as a writer I would take pride in my work so, people know what the point is.  Also, when did "what" become spelled "wut or wat"?  Lastly, is anyone afraid that children will not do well in school due to texting?

Another thing, when did acronyms become the only way to spell?  It's as if teens have re-invented the English language.  My complaint isn't acronyms, it is the use of them.  Only use them when the people or person you are speaking to understands them.

Everyone makes typos and I agree with the grammar part. But I don't really notice it too much in news articles and things like that. To me it's really obvious on message boards, facebook, twitter and tumblr. That's where I want to rip my hair out because I can't understand what they're trying to say.

Those are initials. Acronyms form a word, such as scuba for example.
