Cleaning out kitchen shelves.
« on: April 28, 2012, 10:29:23 am »

Are you as good about cleaning them out as you are about cleaning the refrigerator?  I like to think I am a little better at this.  I just tossed a bunch of stuff from them, too.

No, I am not nearly as good at the cabinets as the refrigerator.  But every once in a while I do go through the pantry and the medicine cabinets and clear out anything with an expired date.  Luckily there were only a few things that had to go.  When I know that use by dates are coming up on items, I try to incorporate them in meals, or donate to our church food kitchen.

my shelves aren't ever full enough to have to
deep clean them out, lol. we use what we buy
and when that's gone, we go grocery shopping!
i do reorganize the kitchen cabinets every now
and then, though.
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

You're supposed to clean out your kitchen shelves?  I don't know,  sounds like it may disturb some of the animals that I think are living back there.

I try to keep them dusted just in case the cat decides to snoop around in there.

I'm okay at the shelves, mostly because I end up moving things around otherwise. Only problem is that I found some jello and have no idea what to do with it since we don't like jello!

Sometimes I reorganize the shelves or wipe them off if something spills. I guess I should probably look for expiration dates once in awhile to. This usually happens if I am going to donate something during the food drives and then I find out it is expired so I throw it out.

I am a super coupon freak.  I have many shelves....when I need more...I do not clean out....I make more shelves...LOL!  However---I do(quarterly) remove stock from the shelves and give to charity or a friend in need.

sometimes; there some things that I might still use or need, whereas there are economical reasons, such as not to waste. I think it is easy to clean out shelves.

We clean the shelves in the spring and fall. I put the date on the cans and boxes as I add them to the shelf.

I am terrible at cleaning out our pantry. I found stuff just last week that had to have been there since we moved in last summer and completely forgot about. Wouldn't you know that as soon as I threw out some old crackers, my husband asked if we had any. As for the refrigerator, I just clean out stuff as it goes bad.
