I can confirm knowing some extremely well-educated, (and naturally "smart"), Texans with whom I've personally interacted, (as well as some who would be most likely to appear on "COPS") - not only online but, in person.  As for a 'battle of wits', I'd like to take you up on that extended offer.  Here or, over in the D+D subforum.

I would have to agree that there are some very interesting... umm characters... from Texas. But isn't that the case for any state, town, or country? And I think we have debated in numerous topics up to this point. I respect your views, even though they are different than mine. Mostly, I think healthy debates are fun and good for all to see.

I have no idea what lucrative lifestyles have to with anything so far discussed in this thread. How is that relevant?

Your claim to be a n=merit scholar is an attempt at demonstrating high value.  I am just knocking you down a peg.

I'm not so sure about "any" town - there may have been too much inbreeding in some of them.  I hear both presidents Bush were from Texas ...

And I think we have debated in numerous topics up to this point. I respect your views, even though they are different than mine. Mostly, I think healthy debates are fun and good for all to see.

Numerous topics? Hrmm ... I suppose what they say is true; the memory is the first thing to go and the second thing escapes me at the moment.
Yep, heathly debate is more than just good fun; it can keep those mental processes sharp, (like that memory thing).  However, are you implying that debate which has a bum knee or a bit of a cough isn't allowed?

I was just attempting to prove to you that all Texans are not uneducated and "hillbillies". You made a broad claim towards a group that I fall under and felt the need to comment on your warped thinking.

I'd take either of the Bush's over Obama, but that's a whole separate issue (which I am guessing you wish to discuss, otherwise why bring it up)... Inbreeding would lead to more interesting characters, wouldn't it? Interesting meaning weird, abnormal, and awesome for people watching.

Well I guess it is mostly on Christian topics. I usually just reply to people on the other side at large, it may not have been you specifically. Pretty sure there were a few, though. And I am not implying that about debates at all. Otherwise, the D&D forum on here would be mostly a waste. I am just saying I enjoy a good debate, which like you said, is good for the mental processes.

As they'd say in some parts of west Texas, "the father may be a scosche & a half brighter than the son, but then again a scosche is pert-near a smidgen ..."

Inbreeding would lead to more interesting characters, wouldn't it? Interesting meaning weird, abnormal, and awesome for people watching.

I'd be more likely to vote down(s syndrome) an inbreed presidential candidate than not.

Given your tendency to not quote attributions, (as to who said what), it's difficult to tell.  I did come across a few 'gems' from your hand while looking to see if we'd directly 'cross-swords' before though:

In Message ID: 307268
"mh874892" posted:
"I believe in creation by God, but I think He used and is still using evolution as the world ages. I do not think it has to be one or the other. Evolution is always occurring, and I believe God made it this way."

 - [and in another thread, msg ID#342039] -

" ...the other side does not take into account that faith does not have to have proof."
---

I'm not tacitly suggesting that those be rehashed, (unless you want to give 'em a go?); they were requoted because they provide some basis for your positions on "evolution" and "faith".  If those positions have shifted since 2011, (when you were about 22 - and are now what, 23?), then you'd be the one to inquire of any such changes.

The hillbilly to person ratio is so close to 1:1 that it actually IS  mathematically 100%. A merit scholar like yourself understands this.

Wouldn't a 1:1 ratio mean that, out of 100% of the Texan population, there's one "hillbilly" for every 'non-hillbilly' and thus, each would comprise about 50% of the population of Texas, mathematically? {I'm extrapolating ... having no recent call to recall ratios lately}

No. If 50% of people were hillbillies the ratio would be 1:2    (2 people total: one hillbilly-one norm)   my humorous scenario implies that 1 out of every 1 person (or all) living in Texas is a hillbilly.

I sit corrected, (having just realized that ratio was being conflated with percentage.  Thanks, 'siggy', now stop 'insulting all hillbillies/rednecks', (because, according to the unproven ratio you've presented, there's at least one non-hllbilly for every hillbilly in Texas whch means that not all Texans are either hillbillies or, non-hillbillies).  Where do you hail from, (not so that we can make fun of that place - necessarily)?  I'll trade this info with you if you go first, (although I'm not requiring that birth certificates be posted as evidence, at least try to lie well if you're planning on not being honest - deal?).

I'm a Chicago native.  Our ratio of loud, brash people is also 1:1

What percentage of that ratio end almost every conversation with, "Da Bears"?

I'm (far) from the same place where the Wright brothers flew their glider along the beach, where the state motto is "Esse Quam Videri", (latin for 'to be, rather than to seem').

Yes, 23. An no, my positions have not changed.

Of the Texans I've encountered, I'd say it's closer to a 1:20 ratio. But I guess it depends what exactly you mean by hillbilly.

I don't agree, I was very pleasantly impressed by the people of Texas.  I only lived there for 2 years, stationed at Ft. Hood, but I had a great time in that state, even though the duty at Ft. Hood was some of the most difficult I experienced during my Army career.  I didn't completely fit in because I owned a Datsun, not a pick-up truck with a gun rack holding several rifles and a shotgun and sporting a bumper sticker that proclaimed, "Don't mess with Texas!"  My son was born in that state and he's proud to be a Tejano.

It's funny how different people are, because to me Austin is unbearable. I was there this past weekend. It's fun for a little bit, but I was so glad to be getting out and going home!
