Emergency rooms

Anyone feel like sharing a nightmare ER experience?

I have had 2 bad ones and no good ones. It is my opinion that it is useless to go the ER unless you have cut off a limb or something. You must be bleeding in an obvious way to get any help quickly.  :BangHead:

I am sorry you have had such horrible experiences In the ER thankfully I don't have any to share. But I agree you have to be nearly dead to be taken seriously. I mean I have even seen footage of a woman literally dropping dead and no one did anything that is horrible.
Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.NEED Help? Check out my Beginners Guide pinned in the Support forum :)

I went to the ER with a broken finger. I did not bring Ice with me. I should have. The ER would not give me any ice. The finger became so painful I was screaming in pain. All I needed was some ice. Because I was screaming they threw me in a lockup in the mental ward.  They took an x ray of my finger and saw it was broke they gave me some ice for pain about 6 hours later. I suffered SO MUCH. I would of been better off with NO treatment. I could not even get legal help to sue for this treatment. I will never go to the ER in this town again. I hope I will be able to move from here someday.

Oh yeah I got one of those from my son in law.  Last year he was haveing some back pain so bad he could not stand.  He went to the VA hospital over in Dallas (mistake #1)  where he sat in a chair for over 4 hours just to find out that because of budget cuts there was only 1 ER Doctor who had gotten sick and gone home.  Well after finding out this piece of information my son in law left and headed home without getting treated.  My daughter had him go see one of the Dr. at her place of employment which is also and emergency room clinic to find out that he had kidney stones.  Well as if the treatment at the VA (he was not treated or seen by a nurse or doctor) he got a bill for $500.00 emergency room visit.  They are still trying to get some administrator type to fix that bill.

I have had plenty of ER experiences and most all of them just as bad as the one before it. The Quality of Hospital Care has diminshed over the years. It has become like a lot of other things, its all about the money and no care or concern for the patients. Now don't get me wrong there are some good Drs and nurses out there but for the most part the caring has gone out the door. It's like you said you have to be about dead to get treatment. Most ER's are slower than Molasses.

Yikes.  This topic is new and already there have been stories shared that I think are atrocious!

Getting locked up in the mental ward for screaming in pain rather than having someone treat the broken finger -  WHAT!?

Going to the ER and getting billed for the "visit" when there was NO doctor there and no treatment -- WHAT?!

After my dad was diagnosed with cancer he had a stroke. The ambulance came to pick him up but he was left in the waiting room for six hours!

Unfortunately, we've had a lot of experience with a lot of ER's.  2 were mine and the rest were my husband's covering at least half a dozen hospitals and probably around 20 visits since he started having heart attacks in the mid 80's.  At least 8 of these were vascular not related to heart and he has always been treated well.  Two of these hospitals were VA in different decades and different cities and different causes.  We've been very lucky!

When I was pregnant with my first child (about 8 months along) my husband was fixing our roof when he kneeled down and got a nail stuck right in his knee cap. He waited till in the middle of the night to finally go to the ER. We waited for about 4 hours till we finally got help. In the mean time he was in so much pain he was begging them for a pain shot. They just kept ignoring him like having a nail stuck in your knee cap was an everyday thing... like a cut on your finger or something. Very uncaring people! It was torture for me to have to wait around like that being so pregnant.

I was at a medical university having a prcedure done and it was a medical student puttin my IV in.  Her hands were shaking so bad it wasn't even funny.  I had to help her put my IV in.  Didn't bother me that much, but it could have scared the crap out of someone else.

I got one. About 5 years ago we were camping in the mountains with our dirt bikes and I had an accident. Going down a curvy hill, picking up speed, I began to slow down with my foot peddle, paniced, and grabbed my hand brake. Those who ride know what happens. You go flying over your bike. When I hit the ground I threw myself down the hill so my bike wouldn't land on me. It didn't but boy was I in some serious pain. Anywho, long story short. I had the accident in the am. It took us over 5 hour to get to the nearest hospital. They took my information and then proceed to ignore me. Several hours later my husband finally got someones attention and they did one of those full bodies x-rays. I had several broken ribs and was bleeding internal. Next thing I know I was in ICU. The doctor told us he was surprised I wasn't dead. Something I didn't want to hear. After that I was treated like royalty. Forturnetly I didn't loose any body parts...namely my spleen and I was release after 2 weeks in the hospital. So this hospital started our bad but turn our good.
