Help but dont expect back

My family friend told me this the other day "Help but dont expect back" I think its hard for me to except I am a very helpful person (I am not trying to be conceited) but I do I will take friends to doctor appointments, lend out money, give rides to people, anything you can think of to help because I like to help people it makes me feel better. But its hard because I feel nobody ever returns favor and i dont mean with stuff money I dont want that stuff but just for someone to care about me and simply ask how are you ? Are you ok? simple stuff but i realized for myself that I have to just do to help and not expect anything back and accept that!!! Anybody feel the same ?

That is how the world is today, people don't care about people anymore only for themselves. After a while you get tired of doing the things you do even though you love helping people, you start feeling used. Keep helping people if that's what makes you happy but beware that there are a lot of "users" out there.

If one chooses to help, do so without expectations.  That way, anything in return exceeds non-expectation.

I've often found by going the extra mile especially with strangers I get rewarded tenfold; however, many close friends and relative don't seem to appreciate it at all.
