We are going down to my husband's grandma's cabin. It is on Lake Gaston on the border of Virginia and North Carolina. We go fishing and swimming and just plain relax......well as much relaxing as you can do with 4 kids.

There's a military cemetary nearby, (not Arlington), that I will go alone to just as I do every year.  There's no barbeque, maybe a few families of the honored dead spread out among the silent gravestones.  Staying clear of those families out of respect for their privacy, my slow walk down the rows will take me across the grass before the names of the fallen.  Each and every name that is passed is read and though I cannot remember them all by dusk, they are acknowledged and honored for their service and their sacrifice.  Every last one of them. As the sun sets, I'll turn to leave but, not before standing briefly to attention and presenting arms; a silent salute offered in deepest respect.

Just wanted you to know that reading your post touched my heart this morning, thank you for sharing and thank you for your care and honor. It seems to me that not enough people take the time to do so.  ;)

This is something I'll keep doing every year, for as long as I live.  Lest we forget.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

Stay home. we live between 2 lakes and a 3rd is only 50 miles away and there is so much drinking around it gets too where you don't want to go to the lakes and they are very crowed, since it seems like half of Texas is there. I don't even want to put the boat in the water. Later will go to a small town and honor my children when it is quite.

Excited to be going camping and most likely swimming and playing basketball all weekend.  And of course eating much more than I should.

My family normally has a cookout on Memorial Day.  I just started my job a couple weeks ago and I'm not sure if I'll get the day off or not.  If I do have to work that day it won't bother me as much as it used to cause I was out of work for over a year.

My hubby and I are going to go over my mom and dad's house to eat. My dad and brother are going to be in charge of grilling.

I will call my great uncle who fought in WWII and check in with him.  Other than that, I will try to clean and organize... the never ending task.

Good for you!  Even if he's like my grandfather, (who enjoys telling the story about how he once defeated an entire German armored divsion with only his knife ...).

We will be traveling to my husband's sister's home in Wisconsin to celebrate her son's high school graduation.

When we return, we will do our own family "Birthday Bash".  Over the Memorial Day weekend, we get together to celebrate the birthdays of everyone from January to June.
