Quite honestly, I had no idea he was an athiest.   Growing up, I was taught about him as only an inventor known for his extreme work ethics and perfection in achieving goals and inventions.  Faith, whether related to or not related to a believers or unbelievers, is a word that I have, from back as far as I can remember, always relied on for myself to reach my own goals and to know that I need that faith, as well as confidence, in my own self in order to even proceed into new areas of life.  :)

Some people will use the words "faith" and "confidence" interchangeably, either with or without religious connotations.  Edison, as an atheist, was unlikely to be using the word in a religious context, (and therefore, used it within the context of confidence in his own persistence and abilities).

N. Tesla, on the other hand, had a much more 'mystical' approach and was nominally catholic.  The juxtapositioning of the two of them, (who worked together at one point until Edison's ego prevented him from seeing the utility in Tesla's alternating current), was intended to make a point about the difference between religious faith and secular confidence.  My apologies for presenting that point too subtlely.
Not a problem at all, and thank you very much.  :)

“A life making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.”
—George Bernard Shaw

And as we all know, mistakes help us learn by experience to do even better things if we stick to it.

Great minds have purposes; others have wishes.

~ Washington Irving

It's good when those wishes start turning into purposes, with new ideas and goals to achieve!

"Doctors are whippersnappers in ironed white coats;
 who spy up your rectums and look down your throats.
 And press you and poke you with sterilized tools;
 And stab at solutions that pacify fools.
 I used to revere them and do what they said,
 'Til I learned what they learned on was already dead."
-- poem by Gilda Radner
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

Montaigne
"My life has been filled with terrible misfortune; most of which never happened."

Sassoon, Vidal
"The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary."

Unknown
"If you think you are too small to be effective, you have never been in the dark with a mosquito."

Oppose proselytizing propaganda with reason and insight.

Keep your eyes on the prize. Don't lose focus of your goal. This means daily, weekly, monthly or even your life goal.

I always read the quote in the email, too. I like to read them but I don't know which one is my favorite. One of my favorites is the lemonade one.

"Courage doesn't always roar.
 Sometimes courage is the quiet voice
