:peace: Positive thoughts can move a soul to do great things.  I have had a very positive life, the challenges I face have been well within my capabilities to meet.  I am greatful and know enough to give back for all I have gotten.

My daily thought would be "Think before you speak." That was NOT meant for you. That was meant for some people in my life.

My thought to share for today is to do perform at least one act of charity everyday. I think it's good to create a positive life. It reminds you to be grateful for all the blessings we have in our lives that we take for granted everyday. Try it! It will change your attitude for the better.

That's a great thought to share!  For many acts of charity like that, we may never really know just how much it meant to them who received.  :)

 :cat:

Thomas A. Edison (1847-1931) American Inventor

"The three great essentials to achieving anything worthwhile are; first, hard work, second, stick-to-it-iveness, and third, common sense."

Thomas N. Carruther

"Faith that the thing can be done is essential to any great achievement."

Determination, persistence, and perseverance are also key to reaching my end goals.   I like how Carruther says that faith is essential in reaching those achievements or end goals.  When I am trying to reach a goal, like with a certain hard class recently, I always try to remember Edison's three essentials:  working hard on my end goal, sticking to it when I'm about ready to give up, and using common sense when tending to try and make certain "molehills" out of things that are really easier than I think they are.

I am more than the sum of my experiences.
I am also a bag of human organs and things I ate.

Edison tried to suppress N. Tesla's invention of alternating current, (which is in current usage), in favor of his [Edison's] direct current concept, (which is not in general usage today).  Edison had some good ideas; direct current for long-distance transmission of electrical power wasn't one of them, neither was attempting to suppress Tesla's more efficient a/c idea, (as history has demonstrated).

Thomas N. Carruther

"Faith that the thing can be done is essential to any great achievement."

I like how Carruther says that faith is essential in reaching those achievements or end goals.

If you're conflating religious "faith" with secular 'confidence', that's a common logical error of religious adherents. The difference being that "confidence" either has a basis in pre-existing factual abilities or capacities or, is merely 'hopeful' with such basis, (like "faith").  Carruther's quote therefore becomes either a confidence in one's own capabilities or, a blind faith in unproven capacity.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

Wow, you have such a deep worry inside when you start equating the word "faith" as to always having to do with belief in God.  Good grief man, go chill, and rest your brain for awhile.  That "faith" I spoke of had nothing to do with "religion."  This is a daily thought thread, so I was sticking to that, outside of religion.

Hope you feel better cutting on my quotes, too.  You just really seem to enjoy being ornery, and have nothing better to do than to visit threads and chop chop chop on posts, especially those posts who belong to Christians, which shows your deep issues/disrespect for them.    ::)    Wow, it appears you cannot separate Christians from themselves also being average, normal people who enjoy posting other things outside of religion.   :dontknow:     :angry7:

Since the majority of what you post does relate to your religious beliefs, I did extrapolate that your Edison quote about "faith" was such, even though Thomas Edison was both an atheist and renowned inventor, (which was why I extrapolated as I did).  Either you were unaware of that or, I proceeded from an invalid premise, (that being the word "faith" would not have religious connotations for an atheist).

As I've mentioned before, I do separate most xtians from their beliefs unless a particular xtian doesn't make that separation themselves and demonstrates fundamentalism repeatedly.  I'll apologize for making an unwarranted assumption in this specific instance if you can honestly say that you didn't know Tom Edison was an atheist.

Quite honestly, I had no idea he was an athiest.   Growing up, I was taught about him as only an inventor known for his extreme work ethics and perfection in achieving goals and inventions.  Faith, whether related to or not related to a believers or unbelievers, is a word that I have, from back as far as I can remember, always relied on for myself to reach my own goals and to know that I need that faith, as well as confidence, in my own self in order to even proceed into new areas of life.  :)

Some people will use the words "faith" and "confidence" interchangeably, either with or without religious connotations.  Edison, as an atheist, was unlikely to be using the word in a religious context, (and therefore, used it within the context of confidence in his own persistence and abilities).

N. Tesla, on the other hand, had a much more 'mystical' approach and was nominally catholic.  The juxtapositioning of the two of them, (who worked together at one point until Edison's ego prevented him from seeing the utility in Tesla's alternating current), was intended to make a point about the difference between religious faith and secular confidence.  My apologies for presenting that point too subtlely.

Thought for the Day

“Never, never,
be afraid to do what’s right,
especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake.
Society’s punishments are small
compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul
when we look the other way.”
