Which serves you better, Pre-Paid or Contract phones?
« on: June 29, 2012, 07:19:53 am »
I've never been able to afford a contract phone, but my pre-paid phone suits me fine  ;). My average payments each month for calling cards is about $40.00 dollars. Although the downsides to my phon is the 'out of service' in various regions and sometimes my ringer doesn't ring regardless if the ringer is turned on  :BangHead:. I must be careful to not allow too many calls from others if their phone number is a long-distant phone number as it eats up my minutes. The reason I don't transfer to a contract phone with unlimited minutes is I can't commit to and afford it every month with my part time bi-weekly paychecks  :angry7: But maybe someday  :dontknow: ?

I prefer to have a prepaid phone because right now I am on a budget and I don't have to worry about hidden fees. For $50.00 a month I get unlimited data, email, gps and most of the other services that are available on other plans. Also I have a smartphone so I am able to download apps to make my life a little easier.

I haven't had a contract on over 7 years and don't plan on ever getting one again.  I've never had any problems with the prepaid phones or service.  I had Virgin Mobile and now Straight Talk and have had zero problems with coverage or the phones not working.  It saves a lot of money.  I only pay $30 a month for 1000 texts and 1000 minutes and that's enough for me.

Due to lots of income we've found that prepaid is a great way to go. You can budget how much time to put on and with some prepaid you can get unlimited everything and really good up to date phones.

My prepaid phone costs me $15.00 a month on average, and I get better reception on it than my sister gets on her contract phone from one of the more well known companies.

I used to have a prepaid phone from walmart that only cost me $15 per month and that worked very well. I never had a problem with coverage. I now do a lot of sales on craigslist and I need more minutes. I found three friends and with all 4 of us on the same plan at Metro we only pay $25 per month each for unlimited talk and text. :)

Depends on your situation. Pre-paid is good for those on low income who might not be able to pay a phone over one or two years. If you can afford it a contract phone is better. You get more options and for the most part better prices for what you get. It also depends on which service you use and where you live.

I have unlimited web, text, and phone from MetroPCS for $40 a month even. No tax, no added charges, just $40 a month. I think they're only in New York though. Boost mobile I think has a similar plan, at least as far as unlimited text and phone for (I think) for only a little more I believe. You should look into where they're available.

Prepaid is good for me. It costs me about $15/month since I don't have too many phone call to make/answer. It's good for now, but perhaps it will change one day?!
