Just in case you weren't feeling too old enough today, this will certainly change things.
Each year the staff at Beloit College in Wisconsin puts together a list to try to give the faculty a sense of the mindset of this year's incoming freshmen. Here's this year's list:

The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1993!

 





They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.


Their lifetime has always included AIDS.


Bottle caps have always been childproof and plastic.


 


The CD was introduced 3 years before they were born.


 


They have always had an answering machine..


 


They have always had cable.


 


They cannot fathom not having a remote control.


Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show.


 


Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.

 


They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.


 


They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are.


 


They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.


 

 

They never heard:

 

"Where's the Beef?",

 

"I'd walk a mile for a Camel", or

 


"De plane, Boss, de plane.."


 


They do not care who shot J.R. nor do they have any idea who J. R. even is.



Mc Donald's never came in Styrofoam containers.


 


They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.

Well, with TNT's re-boot of Dallas, they may now know who J. R. is.

Also, most would be old enough to recall how Conan O'Brian was briefly the Tonight Show host during that NBC debacle 2 years ago.

Other than those recent events - the rest would be true.

That is so amazing, I was born in 1983 so a lot of it I already knew about from high school. I took a class that was only about world events and the past, now days they don't teach them anything in school. I don't like the way they have things set up anymore it's so sad to see the world today and the way it's changed so much.

Wow.  I'm starting to feel like the Sage of the World here.     I HAVE impressed little kids by telling them I remember when there was no McDonalds (barely; I was six when the first rolled into the neighborhood.)  I tell them that and they think I'm at least a thousand years old.

I absolutely love your post!  I was born in '51 so have a great appreciation for the range of differences between 1962 and 2012. I smiled all the way through that one.  I also really like the list of what current students (born in 1993 - so hard to imagine) have and have not experienced in their young, young lives. Does help to put things in perspective doesn't it!  I love it when other members take the time to put up interesting topics like yours.  Thank you so much for taking the time to put this one up.  I certainly enjoyed it!
