chinese food
« on: April 08, 2009, 12:47:07 pm »
I remember eating chinese soup out of those red and white cups made from paper. I miss it sometimes that must have been in the 80's when they added scalions to it and adding a fortune cookie for free what happened today u get fried rice with nothing in it you have to ask for onions..the pork fried rice used to be real good even came with eggs in it. I wonder   what do u think about chinese food and do you remember when it was good? :dontknow:

I'm really picky about what I eat, but I love some of the Chinese sauces so much that I'm attempting to learn to make several of them myself -- then I can add whatever veggies & meats I want!  But yeah...I remember the best Chinese place back home would almost always include white & egg-fried rices free w/ your meal & they *never* forgot our fortune cookies.  Those things are an outright hoot!! :)

Any type of Asian food is delicious (provided in doesn't include dog or something like that.)  I think Thai is my favorite.

sesame chicken and crab rangoon/wontons.
and white rice and eggrolls...

and maybe some coconut shrimp!
which probably didn't derive from china,
but its amazing either way.
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

I love Chinese food. I moved to a different city so I was looking for a good Chinese restaurant and I ordered from a place called the "china inn". Trust me that was NOT chicken!!  :dontknow:

I think it depends on what part of the country you're in.

I'm from Rhode Island where you can order a pupu platter.  It's like a lazy susan of appetizers.  Egg rolls, shrimp, ribs, chicken wings and skewers and such.  And their fried rice comes plain, or with a variety of meat.  Always with scallions and carrots but NO PEAS!  I hate peas.

In California they just call it an appetizer platter and it comes with fewer items.  And their fried rice in plain.

Now I'm MO, where they don't have appetizer platters of any kind, but they have lots of buffets with a variety of items.

Out of them all. Rhode Island has the best chinese food, followed by Missouri.   California was a disappointment.

I enjoy Chinese food every once in a great while. It's just not something I could eat every day. One of our favorte restaurants specializes in Chinese dishes, though. It's this little hole-in-the-wall place but when you step inside it looks very fancy. They have the best sweet bread that they put out before taking your order. We usually get wanton soup and egg rolls with that really hot mustard. I like to get this shrimp meal where the shrimp are wrapped in bacon and covered with a sauce over rice. Very good! I like the almond chicken, too.
