I think that most people tell lies to cover up thier faults, or to avoid facing the truths. When you start to tell white lies, it leads to stealing. I always try to tell the truth, because you never know when it comes :crybaby2: around to bite you.

I always try to tell the truth but some people just cant. They are afraid to hurt somones feelings or get in trouble. "A little lie never hurt anyone, right?" I am pretty sure that is what they are thinking until they create a HUGE lie.

Because I don't lie, there are those who lie by rote to your face every time.  I hate liars and with the most basic and simple question they lie and look you in the eye so innocently.

There are the obvious reasons for lying in contemporary/the "outside world" society but for those "white liars" they basically lie for people who can't speak for themselves which in turn gives other people more reason to hide the truth through lies. Even though some of you hate liars, a lot your favorite stories, movies, and even inventions came as a result of "lies". If you hate liars then do you hate people who cannot speak up or people who do not talk at all? I do not favor lies but I can at least understand why some people need to express themselves in that manor.

For people who constantly tell big lies it is to create a mask of who they want you to think they are to cover the person they really are.  I say lies are like icebergs- for every one you find out, there are 9 under the surface.  If you start to see someone is a liar BEWARE!!!  RUN!!!!

My best guess is to avoid the truth.  But it reminds me of the song "I would lie to you for your love."  The chorus always sticks in my mind, "I am an astronaut, I am a movie star, a doctor, a lawyer and I own this bar.  And I would lie to you for your love!"

If guys only knew how much women hate being lied too.  Oh well.

Undoubtedly you're aware that women lie to men as well, (and 'appreciate' it as much as women do).

From what I've seen women tend to lie more than men, and they're usually more malicious about it.  I've had plenty of trouble from female co-workers in the past who tried to lie about stuff.  I had two chicks try to get my boss fired by saying he made sexual advances towards them.  Everyone knew it was a bunch of bs, but LOW AND BEHOLD if they got him fired one of those two were next in line for his job.  Go figure.  =-P

Yes, I've observed that exact situation occurring in three different work environments.  In each instance, false accusations, (no substantiating evidence to support them), were made.  In two of the instances, the women were found to be lying and their jobs were terminated.  In the otehr occurrance, the man's job was terminated and he proceded to file a civil suit against the company.  I'm aware of this because I testified against the lying woman via deposition in support of the co-worker's suit.  The company lost the litigation and my co-worker was obtained a $100,000 judgement award.

Many of them lie because they're xtians and used to lying to themselves.
Pity...  There you go picking on people who were not even discussing religion.  You poor thing - you really do need to chill and let conversations carry on in the topic of things.  You just cannot keep "religion" out of your head.  You are showing how biased and prejudiced you are to only certain kinds of people - that's a no-no...

There you go picking on people who were not even discussing religion.

The context of this thread is "lying".  As such, the observation that xtians lie to themselves by holding blind faith is a contextual example of lying.

That's only because you have an issue with believers and their faith, and cannot let it go.  The Lincoln quote is now quoted in your honor.

That Lincoln quote applies more to those who make religious assertions and do not support them with factual evidence than to those who challenge such empty assertions of circular blind faith.
