Tips for first time Moms?
« on: September 27, 2012, 12:44:36 pm »
I'd love to hear all of your tips for first time moms. My husband and I are expecting a little one any day now (already past my due date :crybaby2: lol) and I know we're in for a world of the unexpected! Anything that helped you in those first few weeks, or any life hacks you have for as they get older would be much appreciated!

I know its hard and very hard not to hold the baby when you first bring him or her home but try not to hold as much they become more independent and less needy down the road.  When the  baby cries let them cry for a while so they build up their lungs it's better for the babies.  Other then that enjoy your little one and congrats..

This is great advice...but not when they are newborns. They need all the attention they can get when they are newborns. It's scary coming into the world and a person needs this comfort. It is my opinion that from about 2-3 months on is when you should let them cry it out a little more. But only when the basic needs are already met.

Always try to sleep when the baby is sleeping. This is the part where you need family and friends to come in and take care of the laundry, cleaning, and cooking. You can never have enough help when a baby is in the house. Sleep will become very precious!!!!

I go along with remediagirl on the crying and everything...sleep when you can, let other people help with they can. Don't expect everything to be perfect.  The tiny baby stage goes fast so enjoy kissing those little toes while you can.

Hold and love  your baby. Don't worry about spoiling. The time goes by so fast my first is about to turn 12 in December. Don't worry you will be surprised how natural things come to you, I was.

Do NOT go crazy buying a bunch of baby clothes. They grow out of things SO fast. Seriously, just get a couple of pieces. Onesies and pj's and maybe one or two acutal outfits. they won't get much wear out of anything.

Congratulations on your expecting new one!   :binkybaby:  One of the most important thing is to get as much sleep as possible.  If the baby is sleeping try and get in a quick nap as well.  Some people may try to convince you to keep your baby awake as long as possible in between naps so it will sleep longer during the night.  Don't do it.  Your baby will sleep when it needs to.  If you try to keep it up all you will end up with is an irritable baby and a stressed out you.  Let other people help you take care of the baby.  If you are going to breast feed then you should get some cream to put on your nipples, ask the doctor to suggest what creams to use.  Your nipples will get sore, crack and bleed from the baby nursing.  If you are going to bottle feed then before giving the baby it's bottle, test the temperature of the formula on the inside of your wrists to make sure that it isn't too hot.  I don't want to make this much longer so I am ending this with enjoy this time together and relax.

Congratulations, everything that has been said is great advice.  Also the baby is your own flesh and blood take the best care that you can, work with your instincts as much as common sense, motherhood does not come with a manual is learn as you go.  Mistakes will be make but that is fine that is how we learn.  Also, remember you are the parent if you feel that the doctors or some other person tells you not to worry about something, go with your instinct and follow what your heart tells you.

Being a first mom is the best feeling in the world, we all worry and over react to everything, but it is better to be overreacting that under.

Congratulations and best of lucks.
