« on: October 09, 2012, 07:17:40 pm »

I'm a student.

Do you have any meals or types of food you can suggest to me
to help me with my diet?

Last night I made a pasta salad that's fairly cheap.
The trick is making sure you measure out ONE serving. That's my problem.

The pasta salad consisted of pasta noodles (penne), a home-made vinaigrette (olive oil, lemon juice, salt, basil and garlic) and tomatoes. I added in some chicken too for protein.

This may sound weird but I soak cucumbers slices (with skin on) in white wine or apple cider viniger. It is delicous. A whole bowl is around 15 calories. Try getting cucumbers at local farmers markets if available. Pickles have no calories in them as well. For snacks try popcorn that has no butter. Spray butter has zero calories as well. Sara Lee makes 45 calories bread in white and wheat. Its very inexpensive. Hope this helps. Also 1,500 calories a day is fat burning. Simply by eating that many calories a day you can  lose for pounds a week without having to exercise. However, I suggest doing as much as you can to extercise when you first start your diet because after a while your matabolism will slow down.

I try to avoid processed foods as are more expensive and  they contain extra salt and fat. I eat a a lot of salad and make my own dressings, dips and hummus   Besides chicken and lean pork chops, eggs and beans have lean protein. There many web sites that have articles on the subject. Ones that I like are:

sparkpeople
shrinking on a budget(her buffalo chicken is awsome)
Web Md
Weight Watchers

I hope this helps. Good Luck.

Fresh vegetables are at the top of the list they are the best and most nutritious raw but steamed lightly work well too. Salads are the greatest diet food use a light spray salad dressing and easy on those croutons. Streamed chicken and fish, brown rice go easy on the potatoes and pasta. For snacks something like hummus and whole grain chips or a piece of fruit. No fat, plenty of water and make sure you take a good mega-vitamin and a mineral supplement to make sure you keep yourself strong. Rotate the types of vegetables you eat because different veggies have different gifts for your body. Good luck!

A lot of fresh vegetables, and fruits.  Limit amt of red meat in diet.  Eat plenty of fish, chicken.
And dont over eat.  Serve your plate and only eat what is served.   never go back for seconds or thirds.
Its ok to eat carbs,   just eat them in small amounts.  Good luck on your diet.

You want to eat a lot of fiber to keep ypur digestive system moving.
I buy the Nature's Own Double Fiber bread. I get it at the Dollar Tree for $1 a loaf - otherwise it runs nearlly $3 in the store

I know someone who has a garden. It saves so much and they always bring me lots of fruits and vegetables. If you live in a house or if your parents have a house you should consider planting some seeds.

i get those $1 bags of baby carrots and they come in
SO handy for snacks - a handful with some peanut butter
or ranch for dipping, cut them up and toss them in a salad,
or fry them up with some broccoli or other veggies.

fat free cool whip + apples (my current fave snack!)

someone said cucumbers - i totally agree. get a small one
and slice it up, sprinkle on salt, pepper, and parmesan cheese.

oatmeal is super cheap for a huge container and goes very far!
it's considered GOOD carbs because they're full of fiber, which
makes you ''go'' ...i try to eat it daily for breakfast with either
sliced bananas, apples, or yogurt mixed in.

good luck

Veggie's and fruits are the best thing I can think of.  I know that beans and rice are also very cheap and can be combined in a lot of different foods.  As someone else mentioned, boneless skinless chicken can be used in many different recipes.

Honestly, the best way I've seen is just to up your intake of fruits and veggies.  Fresh are better than frozen, but anything is better than nothing.  Find a few that are all veggies, like salsa, and try to incorporate those into your diet.  I did salsa for a snack for a month once and didn't drop a lot of weight, but I went down.
