Me myself have never had a Flu shot. My Father when he was alive did get a Flu shot at one point, it made him sick. My son one year I took him to get a Flu shot and he was sick after also. We do not get Flu shots. My respect to all, from my learning anytime you get something put into your body to keep you from having that problem in your body is just really a experiment on who actually gets it and does not get. To me it is just a free GOV. thing to test on people without acknowledging first hand that this is what they are doing. Notice you have to sign papers for this and then not hold this (entity) responsible for what may or may not happen. Just like this certain bird flu shot when my son was 6 and I did it because of the scare of it. Basically my brother told me after once I was just curious like the Flu Vac, that another form of people making choices to do it without holding the GOV responsible for if and when it happens. Plus they keep a record of you and if contract this illness they will know that the vaccination may have worked with some but not others. Do your testing the right way. Stop making Americans your guinea pig then not hold yourself responsible if they die from it.

No way!!!  I know too many people who have lifelong side effects (one lost his eyesight!) from the flu shot.  A girl on the Today show can no longer walk correctly, unless she walks backwards.  I think I will chance the flu!

Your probably that 1%  that Romney keep talking about. LOL I just had to say that. No disrespect at all I just couldn't hold that one in. Meaning your apart of the group that may not have side effects to the shot, or they maybe hidden and will show at another time, like that 15th shot or something who knows.

I got a bad case of the flu @10 yrs ago. I  was so sick and do not care to repeat it so I get my flu shot every year.

Occasionally I feel "coldish" for a day or 2 afterwards but that is the exception, not the rule. All in all it is not as bad as the full blown flu.

Never will get a flu shot. A number of years ago, I got one and was sick with the flu for a week.
Then, years later, I found Doug Kaufman on TV. He confirmed for me why it was that I got the flu.
It is very nice to have someone trustworthy explain things to you. There are natural ways to build up your immune system!

Lately I have been hearing that these shots actually increase the incidence of getting the flu so I don't think I will get one. I will let nature take its course as long as I am able bodied enough to handle it.

I am signed up to get one today, but as I have an awful cold, that won't happen.

Nope, I have not gotten my flu shot, and will not be getting one. A few years back, my youngest daughter got the flu shot, and shortly thereafter, she got the worst flu that she had ever suffered. I am scared of those things. My family and I will just eat healthy, drink water, take our vitamins, etc.  ;)

I have not gotten one, and don't plan to for quite some time.  I've only gotten the flu maybe twice when I was a kid - and even then, they were mild, relatively speaking.  I'm still young and have a very strong immune system, so I'd rather fight the flu on my own IF I get it.

Often there are various viruses and bacteria driven diseases that fly around each winter, and as others are dropping out of work for weeks, I wasn't touched.

If my immune reaction slows down in the future, I'll reconsider, but for now, better to save the shots for those who really need it.

FYI - part of the reason one gets symptoms when receiving the flu shot is you do receive some strains of the virus in the shot.  The reaction is your body identifying and learning to fight the virus, but with a controlled amount of the virus.  The virus itself is considered "dead", but your body still recognizes it as a foreign item to be contained - hence the instinctive reaction to fight the infection.

The reason it may be ineffective some years is that the flu virus is highly volatile - hundreds of new strains appear each year as it constantly mutates.  Scientists try to guess at which of the hundreds will emerge as the primary strains that year and develop the vaccine for those viruses.  If they guess correctly, you have a greater chance of the vaccine providing you additional protection, if they guess incorrectly, the vaccine may be relatively useless that year.

Yes - I have had mine.  A fall ritual in our household.

I've been taking them for over 10 years, and haven't had a bad flu during that time.  I think they also help with winter colds.
