I know Sci-Fi, alien movies are the absolute best at stretching the realms of possibility, but many are smart enough to put in an explanation that makes some sort of sense in the context of the film’s universe. Others just decline to put any sort of science in whatsoever to avoid it being questioned.  An example of the later is in Roland Emmerich’s Independance Day.  Jeff Goldblum creates a computer virus that will destroy the alien’s mothership and save humanity.  What the film neglects to cover, however, is how you can transfer a computer virus onto an alien spaceship, which doesn’t appear to have any visible USB ports.

Shawshank Redemption is a beautiful, emotional and fundamental piece of cinema that is I think, rightly considered one of the greatest film of all time. However, it does have one moment which begs disbelief. Andy Dufresne  has apparently disappeared from his prison cell, until the evil Warden tears a poster of Racquel Welch from the wall to reveal the great big gaping entrance to Andy’s escape tunnel.  However, all four corners of the poster are pinned down to the wall, which, when you look at the size of the tunnel and poster, would have been literally impossible to do from the inside.  So he what, had Gandalf help him out (since Harry Potter wasn’t around yet)?

In the first of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, Batman Begins, Ducard and Crane are planning to spread a water-borne nerve toxin throughout Gotham City by vaporizing the city’s water supply with a microwave emitter stolen from Wayne Enterprises. An ingenious and creative plan, sure, but…The Human body is composed largely of water, so as soon as the toxin was released, absolutely everyone in Gotham would have exploded, or melted, or something, instead of just going mental at the gas in the air.  Doesn’t anyone think these things through?  Or does they need to be a level of stupidity when watching movies?

Somebody want to explain to me why in Star Wars: A New Hope the incredulous and illogical decision of the Star Destroyer Commander to NOT blow up the escape pod containing both C-3PO and R2D2?  I mean he’s in control of a high powered laser, and when an escape pod jets off a ship your forces are invading, does make sense just to let it go?  And, trying to rationalize it by having the Commander say there were no signs of life on board makes no sense. It’s a galaxy with a high population of droids!  Besides, if their weren’t any life forms on board how could an escape pod just take off?  What is that a glitch in their system they just take for granted?  I know without that, the droids don’t meet Luke, Luke doesn’t meet Obi-Wan, and the saga doesn’t happen but still.  What Commander in their right mind truly let’s an escape pod shoot off their ship without question?  With no life forms on board I would have sent somebody down to engineering to check for short circuits or something.

I love the old Back the Future movies, the first one especially, and the second is a nice play off the first but in the first one, why when Marty Mcfly goes back in time then jumps back to the future after he’s dated his mom and forms a close relationship with his dad, do neither one (his mom or dad) remember his alter ego “Calvin Klein” whatsoever, despite him having profound effect on their lives, even when their son looks exactly like him?  And what about in the new 1985 Biff (now working for George and his wife)?  How is it possible George and Biff exchange light-hearted banter despite the fact that Biff tried to rape George’s wife thirty years ago? Forgive and forget, I guess.

I enjoyed the Conjuring which I know was based on the true story of the Perron family and the unexplained ghostly activity they experienced in their family home in the 1970s.  What I found out was during the making of the film the family visited the movie set several times but Carolyn, the wife and mother of the family, refused to set foot anywhere near the place.  Various strange occurrences surrounded the making of the film. Once, while the Perron family were visiting, a strong wind seemed to surround them and blow through the set despite the trees nearby not moving. At the same time, Carolyn, who was at home in Atlanta felt a strange, evil presence in the house shortly before falling and having to be taken to hospital.  One night James Wan, the film’s director was working late in his office when his dog started growling viciously. Upon investigating, Wan found that there was nothing there, but the dog continued to focus on some unseen entity in the corner. Then, despite Wan seeing nothing, the dog’s head moved, its eyes slowly following something across the room.  Maybe that (instead of Annabel) should have been the sequel  (though yes I know Annabel is a prequel).

So glad Liongate decided to do another John Wick movie.  I hope it’s as good as the first one.  I don’t know how it will connect unless Viggo Tarasov who was only the Russian head crime syndicate in New York, had relatives or a boss above him that gets pissed.  Or maybe Viggo didn’t really die at the end of John Wick just made the audience believe it was over.  No word yet on plot just that the screenwriter and both directors as well as Keanu Reeves is the same.  With screenwriter Derek Kolstad back though it should be just as exciting as the first.

So looking forward to seeing Mission Impossible this summer!  The action is amazing, and Tom Cruise does his own stunts!

While I do like Keanu Reeves, I am not impressed by the coming attractions to Knock Knock.  I am sure the plot, a devoted father/husband is left alone for the weekend and helps two stranded young women who end up seducing him then try (for the rest of the movie) to kill him for being unfaithful to his family will draw more crowds than John Wick, I’m thinkin’ John Wick is a much better movie.  The only problem is the plot of John Wick, an ex-hit man goes on a revenge/killing spree after a house break in gone wrong leads the death of his dog wasn’t a big seller.  You have to see this movie to know it’s awesome.  But given the content, I am sure Knock Knock will do much better for Keanu Reeve than John Wick.  Sad but it will be the truth.

While Hitman Agent 47 looks good, and it will probably be a very good continuation to the original, I miss Timothy Olyphant.  And that being said, I have just one more problem, why does it come across like another Bourne?  I mean the way it’s presented is there’s this organization that kidnaps people then brainwashes them to turn them into these super-human assassins.  I don’t think that’s what the creators of Hitman had in minded when they created the franchise.  Does Hollywood even talk to those creators?

Saw the new Hitman Agent 47 trailer and I have to ask, is this Hitman or just another rip off of Jason Bourne because I played Hitman and I love the Hitman Movie with Timothy Olyphant.  I think it honors the way the character of the game was meant to be.  This just seems to rip off Bourne, but then every action movie with one-guy-against-the-world scenarios seem to rip off Bourne now-a-days, even James Bond.
