Just finished Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.  I thought the movie was amazing.  It was purposely filmed like a comic book movie from the ‘60’s using a faded coloring system like a classic 1930’s movie.  Certain shots even that those black silhouette shapes against a white ball of light.  The whole theme including language used and the names of everyone was so 1930’s.  I know everyone made a fuss when The Artist came out as a silent black and white picture.  I think this should have been made a fuss over since it captured the true essence of a classic comic book movie.  Anyone can make a black and white silent film.  Not anyone can make a comic book movie that not only takes itself seriously but honors the genre and era it was portraying.

Watched the Lego Movie.  I have to say that it was way better than I actually thought it was.  It’s the only movie my entire family enjoyed (and their ages range from 4 to 65.)  The kids loved it since it’s a funny cartoon.  The adults loved it for its satire.  I personally enjoyed it for both.  I just don’t like the part where it actually goes to humans and you get Will Ferrell talking to his son.  But I also understand why it was necessary to include.  I’m glad at the end it goes back to the Legos though it’s cute that the Duplex blocks get involved.  Hm? Do I hear a sequel?

Watching Burlesque with Cher and Christina Aguilera.  I have to say that while I’ve never truly been a fan of Christina’s the movie was definitely her movie and I enjoyed it.  Though I think I would have preferred her in Chicago better instead of Renée Zellweger.  However, I think the songs in Burlesque are more suited for Christina than the songs from Chicago.  Not that Christina couldn’t have done them.  I also wish in Burlesque there was more Cher songs, though I know it was a Christina movie.  It’s just that Cher has such a commanding powerful voice it’s just as if the movie stops in those three minutes she is singing.  Her acting isn’t as great.  In fact I think Alan Cummings steals the show more than Cher.  He just reminds me of Joel Grey.  But as I said it was a Christina Aguilera movie so you couldn’t have Cher upstaging the star.  At least she does get two songs.

Watching Live Die Repeat with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt and it is awesome!  I’m enjoying every second of it.  It’s a sy-fy mashed version of Source Code, Pacific Rim, and Starship Troopers 3: Marauder while the aliens they fight look like giant versions of heads of the Predators in the Predator movies.  Tom Cruise does a great job going from a coward ‘Military Sales Pitch’ guy to the ‘only military guy that can save humanity’.  It takes itself seriously but it’s got a weird sit down and enjoy type feels to it.  And Emily Blunt is just wonderful as the no nonsense Lieutenant.

Honestly I was blown away by how much I enjoyed Live, Die, and Repeat.  I thought it would be another okay movie like Jack Reacher or Oblivion but it’s way better. But then it did get 4 1/2stars with ‎241 votes on Rotting Tomato.

Watched Latest Transformers, Age of Extinction.  While I’m upset they kill off all the transformers outside of four (three of which were never in the first three movies) I think it was the best Transformer Movie of them all.  I know they are doing a five and are back with Shia LaBeaouf and perhaps Megan Fox (if rumors are to be believed) but honestly Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager, a ‘washed up’ mechanic trying to raise a teenage daughter on his own and finding a messed up Optimus Prime was awesome.  Not that Shia was bad but the plot wouldn’t have worked with him.

Watched Around the world in 80days with Jackie Chan.  While it is a typical Jackie Chan/Disney flick, I was blow away by the cameos.  Each one was greater than the other.  With Wilson Brothers (Luke and Owen) played the Wright brothers.  John Cleese played the Grizzled Sergant.  Kathy Bates was Queen Victoria.  Rob Schneider was an excilent choice as the San Francisco Hobo.  Mark Addy was delightful as the Steamer Captian.  Ewen Bremner was funny as ever as Inspecter Fix.  Maggie X played the Female agent (as Maggie M. Quigley oddly enough).  There was even Sammo Hung Kam-Bo wonderful as ever (though I don’t think that was his voice in the one line he spoke), as Wong Fei Hung, one of the ten Dragons. Arnold Schwarzenegger was hilarious as Prince Hapi with a wig.  He did do a decent job hidding his accent since he was supposed to be a Turkish Prince.

Watched Dracula Untold and the critics where right in only one regard.  Luke Evans gives the best acting performance of his career.

Watched Dracula Untold and I absolutely loved it.  It was the first time I ever saw the Dracula story told as a story of love.  (Spoiler Alert).  Usually Dracula, Count Dracula or any Vampire movie for that matter, One is ‘turned’ by an act force.  Yes sometimes it’s an exorcism gone wrong but that’s still unwarranted by the person getting that exorcism.  In this case Vlad becomes a vampire to gain power to protect his family and people.

From the oldie-but-goodie pile I pulled out "Bagdad Café" and watched it last week.  I find the movie charming (and that isn't a word I use often).  I can promise that there isn't another one out there quite like it.

I was very moved in Dracula Untold by Vlad’s wife.  Once Vlad confesses he became a vampire to protect his family and people, she accepts it.  Usually women are running screaming their head off.  She even makes him drink her blood to become a permanent vampire so that he can save their son.
