January 2000
« on: January 14, 2013, 07:33:19 am »
Can you recall what you were doing in January 2000 or where you were.  It was the new millenium  the year of Y2K.  Anyone have any thoughts on this.  I remember I had just came home to Florida after visiting in Ohio and was sure glad to have sand in my shoes and warm sunshine.

My goodness, that seems like a lifetime ago. I was still working on High School, not even a senior yet.

I was 12 and watching TV. I remember all the Y2K panic got me a little anxious. Especially because I wasn't even sure what it was.

I didn't have an older Compaq computer, so I wasn't worried. I was briefly on school break from my University, but I didn't do anything special. I just watched the news to see if any systems went down as people had feared.

 Hard for me to forget... Las Vegas; 2000 !!!

I was living there at the time...Started partying several days before Christmas (1999) & didn't stop till Jan.3rd  2000 (or was it the 5th, lol)... That was back when my body was able to keep-up (age48).
 Last thing I was thinking about was Y2K... Best fireworks display ever... Everynight for the week (before) leading up to New-Years Day... Small ones; 2 or 3 Casinos... BUT... New-Years-Eve/Day was kick-butt...Every Club & Casino went all-out, Up & Down the Strip along with Downtown... Went on for at-least 2 hours (maybe 4)... they would stop about every 15/30 mins or so to let the smoke clear, then right back at it... I gotta say also, I never kissed more women in one night/day than New Year Day 2000, over 100; Now how could I not forget that...lmao... I lived 2 blocks off the strip and all I can say is;

It Was...
GREAT !!!

~~~ Jerry ~~~
P.S. Glad you asked "Can you recall what you were doing in January 2000 or where you were" brought back alot of good memory's for me...
About now bet you guys are thinking... ...lol... Have Fun !!!
I graduated in May of that year.  I remember staying up for the 'millenium' and waiting for all the power to go out or some mass chaos or something but nothing.  I was at my house with a guy I was seeing at the time and my dad lit off a bunch of fireworks which freaked him out....square.
That year was soooo hyped up....especially since I graduated then.  Oh you're the hope for the future and the new millenium and it's going to be a new era.  Really?
Yes, I remember I was the overnight store manager then in our local Thriftway Winn-Dixie store and because of all the hype my crew kept telling me that it was unnecessary to put the stock on the shelves.  Bad night.  Frustrating.
I was working for a bank and I remember all the IT staff had to be on call or working New Years Eve because of fear of Y2K.
I remember it well.  We were at home, watching the celebrations on TV.  I wasn't worried about anything happening because I know that the potential Y2K bugs were fixed long before that night.
