I think the best way to build a babies brain at that age is just to play with them. And talk to them.

i did with my oldest son. the school psychologist p-ed me off when he offered parents parenting advice - he was childless - just a textbook psychologist!
we used to be at a huge school, 600 kids per grade. now we are at a small central school and so far, things are good. i have a 12,7,&5 year old at home-12 more years of school - would do it again - some schools do do their job but, what i'm seeing now, is that these kids are learning 3rd grade work in kindergarten-no naptime, recess isn't a given and there is homework in kindergarten and first grade! I'm just curious if in 20 years  it will have made a difference compared to their previous generation...are these kids going to be more sucessful or, no difference at all?

I was home-schooled my last 2 yrs of highschool, my grades had dropped significantly at my public school...so my mom pulled me and taught me herself....i did so much better that way, and actually learned something, because someone was helping ME and personalizing the help that i needed to understand things better. When i went to public school i was also just so distracted all the time and wouldnt pay attention....

I agree, we started Pre Algebra in Jr. High. Now they start Algebra around 5th grade. Plus they try to stuff so much information into their heads so young, they don't remember most of it a week later.
We can take our time and practice what he has trouble with, and learn the things he is interested in. I would advise anyone who can to give it a try with their children.
The Kindergarteners here are required to attend all day with no naptime also.

Wow, you have your work cut out for you. I always wonder how people homeschool children of different ages.I have it pretty easy with one child. He is getting older and can do a lot more independently.  Is it hard to keep up with all their lessons?

I was homeschooled as a child and turned out just fine. People think homeschooled children are too sheltered. If you ask me, I think they are sheltered just the way they need to be. I think the less you are in the public the better because there are too many bad things to get into, to see and to hear. I homeschool my son and he is doing great.

i was homeschooled from 2nd grade until i graduated highschool. my parents were strict. we were accountable to a private school who held allof our test scores so on our diplomas it says i graduated from that school. i wa glad i was homeschooled i didn't have to deal with all the drama in school. but i still had aca's  i wasn't sheltered. plus i graduated a year ahead of my friends and started college early. i'll probably homeschool my son when he is old enough as well.   ;D

I am a firm believer of home schooling. I went to public school and my children will also be going to a public or private school (that is a whole other discussion), but when they come home we will try to reinforced and compliment what they learn in school, because it is not just our teachers job to educate our children.
