The tasks often have a limit as to how many you are allowed to work in a single run of the task.  This is to allow a variety of works to work the task and ensure the results they gather are from a diverse enough group of people.  You are allowed to work the task again when they run a new batch, but it might take a week or so.  When you see the task run to zero and disappear, most likely the next time it appears about a week later, it's reset as a new batch and you can work some more.  If you get the message "thanks for you work", that means the batch you worked is still running and just move on to another task.

I have never been that into tasks. It seems like a lot of work for not much reward. I need to look into it more. I think I did pretty good one time.

you seem to make a lot of money elisa on the tasks... i was at the start of the month but the flagging task i was doing says ive done all the work i can for that job... if i sign up for the contributor dashboard will it let me do more of that work? or is there not benefit to signing up for the crowdflower dashboard thing?

If you sign up for CrowdFlower it says you will be offered more tasks, but I haven't experienced that since I signed up. It is good to sign up though. If you have an issue with a task, you can post to their forums for assistance. (FC can't help you with issues for the tasks since they are run by CrowdFlower) I've posted about tasks that weren't working, and CF gave me the money for them on their own.

I think how Elisa and the other top five task earners get so much is that they try every task. Even if a task says it's full or complete, give it a click later on, you may be able to access it then

Each task allows for a certain amount of participation from one person. After you get that message you are done for good but there are always new, similar tasks everyday. To actually make it and stay on the leaderboard, you have to spend hours every day on tasks most of the time. It's hard work. I made it to the leaderboard last month with $20 in earnings.

I know you didn't ask this, but I thought I would offer a little tip as some help. You can also access CrowdFlower tasks by signing up with Amazon's Mechanical Turk at mturk.com. You just search CrowdFlower under hits and you will see all of their available tasks for you to do. If you are busy or don't want to spend as much time on tasks select the option for Sort by: Time Allotted (least first) in the drop down box and then enter the desired amount (ie that pay at least) and check for which you are qualified. (This will work even if you don't search for anyone and just leave the box blank. If the box is blank then it will bring up all the qualifying requesters and their hits) You should be able to find a ton of hits because CrowdFlower is a big time requester there. Plus you'll find some hits that are a little higher paying.

CrowdFlower isn't a highly rated requester though and people have had problems with them just as a caveat. You might want to try working for other requesters if things don't go well with them or if you run out of hits to do for them that day. I definitely suggest you first install the turkopticon toolbar that shows the requesters ratings and allows you to rate requesters based your experience with them. You can find it here. http://turkopticon.differenceengines.com/

Let me know if this helps you.

Thanks Elisa and other contributors...I was wondering the same thing.  I really like doing the "flagging" tasks

Thanks Elisajoy, I don't know if you realize how much of a help you are.  I am NO where as high in tasks as you are, but this is the first month I have made as much money as i have in tasks, and I owe it to you and your help.  Thanks again, you are awesome!

Sorry! I didn't realize that you had asked for my help with anything until now. I always forget to check the 'Off Topic' section. Since it concerns the tasks, you could post your question in the 'Support' or 'Offers' section. I always check those daily. Anyhow, about the tasks I complete....

Last month, January, was definitely a great month for me and it was the first time I was able to earn so much money with just the tasks. I think I was up to $53 with just the tasks on the last day of Jan. I do have a 'routine' when it comes to tasks. I always start off with the higher paying ones and at least 75% of the tasks I complete are the 'Flag & Tag Images'....whether it's the 1 cent, 2 cents, or 3 cents ones. These image tasks are straight forward and don't take much time at all....which is why I like them so much. I also like the 'Answer a few questions (5 cents)', 'Send a Tweet (2 cents)', and 'Search Google (5 cents)' tasks. When I see any of these tasks and I haven't yet completed them, I do those right away. Each day, I also go through each task page to see if CrowdFlower has added a 'Survey' which is usually worth 10-25 cents. Once I've completed all the higher paying tasks, I start all the 0.50 - 2 cents tasks which go by the names 'review a site' or 'quick webpage review' and those only take 10 seconds to complete each. There are some tasks that I don't even bother to try because I know I won't understand them or they don't credit even if I follow the instructions. After a while of completing tasks, you sort of know which ones are worth it and which ones aren't. For example, the ones that say 'look for the code after downloading the file'....I ALWAYS ignore those tasks. From experience, I know that even if I download the file, there is no code anywhere and I won't get credit because I can't submit the task without the proper code. I also stopped trying the 'Search for terms and record the search results (15 cents)' because if it says to use google, I already know I won't be able to complete that task because it asks for minimum 5 search terms and my google only gives me 4. If that same task says we can use bing, I'll complete it because bing gives me 10 search terms and I'll have enough search terms for each box. So yeah, I complete at least 90% of the tasks that are offered by CrowdFlower but not all of them.

You mentioned signing up with CrowdFlower. I signed up 2 months ago because some tasks were not crediting and I wanted to use the CrowdFlower Support button. The fact that I signed up and have an account with them hasn't changed the number of tasks available or anything else. I've also only received 2 bonuses in 3 months from them....so it doesn't give you more bonuses either. But signing up with CrowdFlower is free and if you notice that some of your tasks aren't crediting, it might be useful for you to have an account with them so that you can get help with specific tasks. You'll just need to be patient with them tho because they can be real slow in responding haha. They've got hundreds of people asking for help with FC tasks and tasks offered by CrowdFlower on other sites too and everyone ends up on the same CrowdFlower page asking for help with this or that.

Last but not least, the 'Thanks for your hard work....there is no more work for you at the moment' message. Well, I don't take 'no' for an answer. I get that message very often and what I usually do is either 'refresh' the page or complete another task and then come back to the one that supposedly has no more work for me....and 70% of the time....the task page will open up again and I continue working on it. This technique only works with the 'Flag Images', etc tasks which have several pages for each task. This technique won't work for the 'Search Google' or 'Review a webpage' because for those tasks, there is only 1 task page available per person and once you've reviewed a page once....that's it. Kinda hard to explain but hopefully you'll understand what I mean. But for those 0.50 cents, 1 cent, 2 cents 'review a webpage' tasks, they are constantly adding new ones so it's not really an issue. That's actually the most common task in the task section.

Hope all this helps you and sorry for taking so long to reply!  :)

This post is so helpful. I have one a few tasks but have been wanting to do a lot more to increase my earnings. I was not very familiar with how they worked so this post is awesome for helping to understand them little better :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
