Yes, many women subconsciously turn the mothering/nurturing instinct toward pets.
To them these animals truly are 'children'.
I think it could be a good thing rather than having more children in the world.

Some people just really love animals.  I think a lot of childless people make their pets their "kids" regardless of their gender.  I think that's a lot better than people who don't really want to deal with children having them anyway because of social pressure.  The world is overpopulated as it is.  We don't need more unwanted children in it.

and about the children part....sometimes children are the reason that adults get pets

Why do most adults want animals? I think most people have pets for companionship. A pet can be something to love and cherish as would a child. I do not think women have a pet because they do not have children. A human is way different from a pet in many ways. Sure some pets like dogs and cats and I think birds can act like human in a sort of behavior but mostly it is what the human teaches the pet and the pet forms some bond behavior. Like my sons bird we are coming to the door from being away from home he chirps and whistles as to welcome us home.

I have both.  My son and I enjoy their companionship.  We enjoy being with them and watching the cute things they do.  I also like knowing that I am taking care of another creature.  Some people enjoy plants, I enjoy animals.

I love having pets for the love and entertainment they bring to the family.  I do not have children, but even if I did I would still have pets.

I have had pets as long as I can remember, before and after I had a child.  Most of my family and extended family, men and women, love animals.
