My 1o year old grandaughter just had to put her dog down. My heart breaks for her. She wears sunglasses so we cant see that she has been crying.

Awwww, I'm so sorry for your granddaughter.  Tell her that even though she can't see her dog, he'll always be around her because she loved him the most.

I'm so sorry for her.  It is hard.  I was in college when they called and told me that put our family dog down.  I got off and cried.  They are apart of the family.

Let her know that crying is normal and even expected. Otherwise she may feel ashamed and feel she is reacting inappropriately.

Dogs are part of the family; she's got to grieve.  Sad to say, but her learning to deal with loss at this age will help her in the future.

That's horrible :( I still think about all the pets we've lost. They become a part of your family.

I heard a lovely story about a rainbow bridge.  The animals that die go across it to a place where they have all they need and can play like they're young.  They wait there until they can be reunited with us.  Maybe this will console her.   :peace:

That is a GREAT poem.. A friend of mine sent that to me when our dog passed away, it does not matter what age you are when you have to put your pet down.. He or She is very very much part of your life, and a family's life.. Look for that poem, and let her read it as much as she needs to.. it helps very very much..
