I know a guy who does Mystery shopping.  He makes pretty good money of it.  He lives in Chicago so there are tons of opportunities for him.  I don't know that it would pay out in the boondocks so much.  I do think it would be worth a shot though.  Heck if I'm already out running errands why not make an extra few bucks to cover the cost of gas.  I wish I knew more about what companies are trustworthy to fill everyone in on this bored.

I looked into a mystery shopping agency, but after they reimburse you for all you spent, you don't make much more than about $20. I didn't like it but if you know of a better acency, I would be willing to try it out.  Sometimes it is good just to get paid for something you would have already done anyway.  There are some that you have to be a member of the zoo or a bank. I don't like them.  good luck

I actually like being a mystery shopper. I have done it several times and have made decent money. However, I have not done much lately because you do have to spend money on some shops and it takes a while to be reimbursed. Some of the jobs are complicated with their directions but once you do a few you start to understand what you are doing. I can't wait to do some more. There are many good companies out there if you do your research.

Myster shops can be alot of fun, b ;)ut you do have to watch out for scams.

Is there any thing that stands out on scammers?  What can they do to you if they are a scam?  I have yet to find one that will send me shopping, I never qualify.  Any helpful hints would be nice.  God Bless

Maybe I should give this a try.  I do not have as much luck with surveys as I used to and I am getting burned out.  Maybe this would be a nice change.

I've wanted to do this but like some people were saying is the scams you have to watch out for and how do you know a check you receive is not fraudulent?  Do any of these companies do direct deposit and how do you show proof of what you spent just send them the information?  In my eyes this wouldn't be that bad at all but if I was spending time and gas I wouldn't want to just make a $20 difference if all of the stuff is something I normally wouldn't do or out of my way on where I wouldn't normally drive to.  It's beneficial if you're eating at places though and then getting reimbursed later because it's basically like free meals and getting to go out for nothing which I wouldn't mind doing either.  How do we know which places to trust though?  That's the biggest question that I'm sure more people than just me have.  I'm near the Cleveland area the one company I found on google before had good reviews on different websites but didn't have anything for my area.

I have been doing it for YEARS!  It is amazing to me how many people think it is a scam.  First, don't pay to find out jobs.  That would be a scam.  This job is a quality assurance job.  You are paid to give feedback to the employer about what happens when they do not think anyone is looking.  Keep that in mind, because it is important!  You are not paid to go get free stuff.  You are not paid to go to a store and then not give a full and detailed report.  If you are the kind of person who can pay attention to detail and express your findings in writing, you will love it.  I just did some apartment shops.  I had to call, ask questions, agree to see the property, take a tour and write a report.  Each shop took about 2 hours total.  I got paid $30 for each shop.  i did 3 one day and 3 the next.  That was $180 in 2 days with no money out of pocket.  I have done more shops than I can remember.  I work with a certain company who calls me personally all the time to do stuff.  they do mostly casino and high end hotel shops.  I also have done Emeril's restaurants, banks, mattress stores, cell shops, fast food, glass store, I do telephone shops... you name it!  My favorite is CHC Solutions.  I also like iccds, second to none, dsg, market force.  There are lots, but if you look at the guidelines, you will find ones that fit you well.  Don't pick a big one first and get overwhelmed.  Pick something not too intense.  A high end restaurant is VERy intense!!  You have to rate the hostess, waiter, busboys, each course, the bar, the bathrooms and on and on and on.  Don't pick that one until you get you feet wet.  If you go to volition.com, they have a forum of people who give insight, as well as a list of Shopping Companies.  You can make good money, but don't think it is just a free meal... it is a job!

Thanks for all the good info on mystery shopping and for the companies that, I assume, you recommend. May have to check some of those out sometime.

No, this was not an offer, just an inquiry by the original poster about how mystery shopping works and for input from those who have done it.
