We are very fortunate and do not lose power too often. During huricane Sandy, We did not lose power until @ 9 at night. I read a little than went to bed. The power was on when we awoke.

I find it a good time to talk with family, play cards, or play boardgames.

I would sit in my room, or lay on my bed and wait for the power to turn back on.

I always make sure I have a large candle and some flash lights.  Being without electricity is a bummer, but it happens!  I cook on the grill and we eat by candle.  Reading to the kids is an excellent idea - also some of their ball games.  Be creative and think of what you did before all the current electric gadgets were here.

Candles or kerosene lamps to read, play board games.  Depending on time of day, may leave home and go out for awhile or go to bed.

If the power goes out in the winter (which it usually does, due to storms), my hubby would go hook up the generator.  Gotta keep the fan on the woodstove going, you know, and the t.v. keeps the kids happy instead of freaking out.

If it goes out in the summer (which does happen, from time to time, if a squirrel gets blown by a transformer or if a car biffs a power pole), we just make do.

:BangHead: Having the power go out is the worst.  There is nothing to do period.  Light candles or turn on a lantern we have and call the power company to inform them, then call them back over and over obsessively to get worthless updates on how long its gonna take estimated to have the power come back on lol.

We lost power for 5 days last year (ice storm power lines were down, most of PA was in the dark).  We used candles at night, ate what we could as most stores and restaurants were closed, no power, froze at night when the sun went down and since we have a well, we had no water.  We, as everyone else, made the best of a bad situation.

So far I have only had power outages in the Spring or Summer.  Never in the Winter, thank goodness.  I pretty much do nothing but wait til it comes back on.

I remain calm, and try not to go insane. And my survival skills kick in. Last year when the power went out due to a big storm we had in central va. We went without power for almost two weeks, and I gotta say. It was a living hell. This was in the summer time too. And may I remind everyone. 2012 was the hottest year to date. It was soo hot that I felt I was going to pass-out. But we all kept calm and made the best of things.

Go on the internet or listen to music w/ a portable speaker.
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)
