I'm so glad no one was seriously hurt.  I just wish that some life lessons didn't have to be learned the hard way.

I'm so sorry to hear that. She's very lucky she didn't get killed!

I don't understand how people can text or browse Facebook while they are driving and think it's a good idea!
Whenever my husband even looks at his phone to change the song I take it from him if I'm in the passenger seat.

I try not to get preoccupied...driving is dangerous and paying attention is so important...but I'm human.

That is so unsafe!  Texting while driving is even more dangerous than talking on the phone because it requires the text-er to take their eyes off the road and use (at least) one of their hands.  Most people seem to think they are the exception and can handle that task safely, but accidents can happen in a matter of seconds.

I'm a very slow at texting but even if I was fast I wouldn't do it when driving - much too dangerous.

People are idiots and fools.  They think it will never happen to them because they feel that it is multitasking and they have always done it. They forget they are driving a vehicle weighing possibly a ton.  You can't drive and text because your focus is not on the driving.  When will people learn?  The Police isn't enforcing the no talking or texting while driving.  I mean if you want to talk, it doesn't cost that much to get an ear piece.  As I said stupid and not caring about others.

When my state was talking about banning talking on cell phones while driving, I was actually against it... The whole reason for those laws are about distracted driving. Yet I always felt (and still do) that holding a cell phone to your ear is less distracting than having a passenger talking to you. When you're on your phone, your vision is not being obstructed, you can still turn your head to watch your mirrors, and you should still be able to hear horns / sirens out of your other ear. However when you have a passenger, your instinct is to turn and look at the person you are talking to, which causes a distraction. Even if you are able to keep your focus on the road, the passenger may still gesticulate a lot while talking and catching a sudden movement out of the corner of your eye may also cause you to turn your head to see what the motion was. And if you have more than one passenger (esp. squabbling kids in the back), they all add distractions to the driver.

However, having said that, I don't think that there is a way to text and drive without being distracted, unless as mentioned before the phone has a voice-to-text function that allows the driver to speak and the phone transcribes it into an SMS text. But even then, the person is likely to look at the phone to ensure that it was transcribed correctly. And they'd probably have to look at the phone for any response. That's why I never text and drive... The only time you could technically say that I do is when I'm stopped at a traffic light and someone had texted me earlier while I was actually driving the car. And even then, if I'm the first person in line, then I won't bother since you still need to pay attention to the traffic signal.

It's way too dangerous to text and drive.  Sometimes I just try to dial a number on my phone while and driving and that is even too dangerous to do and I need to stop doing it.

It's so ridiculous & insanely dangerous. No text is worth your life! Or some innocent person's!

I am so sorry to hear of the accident, but glad no serious injuries. I am so against driving and texting. It is illegal in some areas and should be in all. I figure nothing is that important. If you must text, pull over, there is a million parking lots.

When will we learn? My step daughter has just caused a 3-car pile-up in LA by texting on her smart phone! Luckily no one was seriously hurt, but the damage to the vehicles are extensive and this has impacted on my husband's monthly contributions on his car insurance (it has been raised dramatically). Also, he has to pay $500 excess for the damage. All this because someone posted a photo of her on Face Book.   :dontknow:

It's a shame kids today don't realize just how dangerous this practice is.  Maybe, your step-daughter will have learned something from this, I hope.  One way for sure is MAKE HER PAY FOR THE DAMAGES OUT OF HER POCKET.  That should help!!!!  I know, cause my kid wrecked my car not because he was texting, just because he was stupid.  I made him pay the deductible ($500.00) and the increase in insurance premiums - believe me, he knows better now!!!!

When will WE learn?  I would ask when will certain people learn?  I would never consider messing around with a cell phone while I was driving.
Have a great day!

Texting and driving...very idiotic and dangerous. I've almost been hit crossing the street from people doing that many times. Highly dangerous, and also illegal in CA.
