Pasta Dough
« on: March 03, 2013, 10:50:17 pm »
My mom hasn't been doing so well lately so I have taken over all of her household chores, including cooking for her. This past week-end I made a home made dough for pasta. It is so very easy to make both to prepare and cook so it gave me many choices. I ended up making cavatelli. I only thought of it after that I could have made ravioli or tortelloni but I hadn't taken out any meat. Does any one here make their own dough for pasta and if so what is your favorite kind ti make?

There are quite a few recipes out there. I know that there are a lot of good ones if you google the type of Pasta you want to make. You can find the best ones through food network sites. The easiest is just water, flour and a dash of salt. 4 cups of all purpose flour to about 1 1/2 cups of room temp water. Make a pile of flour with a hole in the middle, add some water and mix. Repeat the pile, hole with more water and mix until the dough forms a ball. If it's too sticky sprinkle some flour. Once good texture achieved make a ball and leave it to rest about 30 min under a cloth. Then cut it in half to make it easier to work with. Roll it out and shape your pasta how you would like. You can make long fettucine, linguini, capellini, or short ravioli, cavatelli with this dough. Pasta dough is one of the most simplest of the doughs to make, with the least amount of ingredients. Good luck :)
