Friends with Bosses (I'm Venting to FusionViewers)
« on: March 14, 2013, 07:35:54 am »
I'm far from perfect, but I always report to work on time and do what I need to, but it seems like some Bosses like the 'lazy' ones and let them get away with stuff. Are some bosses crazy??
There was this guy working at my job, always 'disappearing' but he seems to have 40 hours every week (I'm sure someone was punching him in and out). He had it good (or so he thought) until someone had a deadline and needed this 'lazy guy' and he had left the property.! and 'lazy guy' lied about leaving. Long story short, after 6 years, he finally got fired, and would you believe management wanted to give him just a week off without pay? This is crazy! But I guess/hope someone learned from this.

Oh yeah, I don't know what it is, but I've seen the exact same thing.  I think the bosses like these 'lazy' people as they are very personable and such, yet even though they screw around at work, they still get paid, etc.  One guy I worked with always did his homework instead of actually working.  He didn't even hide it!  And the bosses loved him and always joked around with him.  I was actually glad when the guy quit!  Why was I busting my butt while he was doing nothing?  Good riddance!

I think we have all been through this at one time or another.  I didn't work with a "lazy" person, I worked with a drunk.  She would be out at least one work night EACH week.  We all knew this, even the boss.  She either didn't one in the next day or if she did, she honestly slept at her desk!  We all saw this, but nothing ever happened to her.  Finally her family put her in rehab and she never returned to work (at least where I worked)

You said the bosses are lazy, but what about your co-workers?  I worked with a woman once that went on vacation and left us short-handed when it came to working on the budget.  I worked on the budget, and she had the colossal gall and nerve to call me and ask me what I did.  My response to her was, "I did my part; now you do yours."  I worked with another woman who, when we did monthly attendance reports, messed up so badly that the Funding Source sent her reports back to be redone.  After the director for the department and I tried to tell her she was doing them wrong and she darn near cussed us out, she called me.  The arrangement was for me to show her how to do them.  The downside to this is that I had to straighten them out all on my own while she was down the hall running off at the mouth as usual.  Then we were transferred to the main office.  She and I were told about a new employee who was about to be transferred to join us at the office.  I was accused of going to the person being transferred and telling her about her transfer, but it wasn't me; it was this woman; we found out after she had been fired.  The subject came up and the woman verified that the former employee (this woman) had told her and made her a nervous wreck.  They finally got rid of her, which made things easier. ??? :o ???

I forgot about the people I've worked with who would go smoke pot on their breaks.  These people also were not good workers and it took the owners FOREVER to fire them even after several warnings for poor performance.  It was because these workers were very enjoyable to be around (because of the pot? who knows...) and they were well-liked by most of the staff.  UGH!!

I had a boss, (not store manager) just dept. He always smelt like pot too me, and had funny actions. I never reported him, but suggested to the manager i felt that we should have another drug test at the store with out telling anyone. Boy was the dept manager surprised. I just got tired of all his nasty jokes and not doing his work. I had my own to do let alone take care of his to. He had to go to rehab. Boy things went a whole lot better after he left. Where there is the will there is a way.

I have worked, primarily, in industries where work could be measured by output and contribution usually was equal to contribution.  I was always producing the most, motivating others to produce alot, and was compensated pretty fairly for it.  I get extremely irritated with people who don't pull their own weight, have poor work ethics, call in sick alot (rather than taking scheduled time off), are distracted by their private life, ask redundant questions and don't treat work like their own business.  I am in a management position and generally go to temporary agencies with hopes of finding someone who can show great attributes within six weeks.  If they can't meet the job requisites within that time period it is time to move on to the next.
