I think it all depends on what you want to do and what your interests are. I live in Michigan and we take local vacations all the time. Going to the upper peninsula is great, such a peaceful place. With the lakes all around us you can find a ton to do here, camping is great here too. Mackinaw is my favorite, everyone should go there at least once, myself I like to go once a year.

I have 3 favorite US spots - Alaska, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii.  All so different, with wilderness areas, animals, fish, and wildlife!

I love the Smoky mountains in Tennessee, you can't beat the scenery or the trout fishing there. It also doesn't hurt that I only live 3 hours away by car.

I vacationed in New Hampshire this year, very peaceful. Two years ago I went to Tenn, Smoky Mountain enjoyed that also. I live in Virginia and they have Mountains to Ocean so if I don't want to go too far I just vacation in Virginia.

I live in N.M. and it is truely the land of enchantment. Even tho it has been so dry for the last few years, as soon as you get a little bit of rain it greens right up and our mountains are beatiful. Woul love to go way up with a horse and camp out again. The big horn sheep came right up to me and one ate out of my hand. Something i will never forget and also have pics of it.

Colorado was a beautiful place to visit, I was there in the summer great time to get all the scenery.  I can see why America the beautiful was written from Pikes Peak.
