What do you think about people who are introverts?

Quote from: Dictionary.com
A term introduced by the psychologist Carl Jung to describe a person whose motives and actions are directed inward. Introverts tend to be preoccupied with their own thoughts and feelings and minimize their contact with other people.

The opposite of introvert is extrovert.

I am an Introvert.  I have been tested as an INFJ.  My daughter and husband are also Introverts.

Although, one my best friends is an Extrovert.  A number of years ago when we used to go many places together (she moved out of state a long time ago), our personalities worked out well together.  She would gather all the commotion and attention to herself, and I always find the quiet places.

Introverts are not well understood by the general public.  There is a great video about Introverts on Youtube.  If you like, I shall share it.

Me! lol
But as Ive matured and had experience in retail, ive learned to be more friendly. Ive also realized that being very introverted can make me seem stuck up or unfriendly.. Now I am better at being out of myself and more giving in building friendships and also with customers of course. (:
I am still naturally introvert but I am less selfish

I have only known a few introverts.  I guess it is because birds of a feather hang together and I am probably the opposite of an intovert.  I am intrigued by introverts because they have so much more time to do things without being bothered by people. One of the inroverts that I met was a twelve year old boy. He was at a Birthday party sitting in a corner away from all of the other children with his laptop. I noticed that his wifi light was lit up and he was playing an interactive online game.  I introduced myself and asked how he was getting wifi.  He told me that he had hacked into the internet of one of the neighbors! The kid was brilliant. I asked him what he did with his spare time and he said that he read and designed corporate websites...and showed me a few of them...making big bucks.

In public, I have been told I am unfriendly or stuck up.  Because I am quiet.  I am not being mean or anything.  I am just quiet.  People are very uncomfortable around quiet, I have noticed.

The funny thing is, my favorite job in the whole world was working for Hotels.  A long time ago, I used to manage the front desk of a hotel.  I loved working in travel.  Meet some very interesting people.  But, I am an introvert.

I can also give great speeches.  Some of my college professors were introverts.  Those that were gave the best lectures.  It was easy to tell they really thought about what they were saying.

The German for introvert translates loosely to "toward inner right".  Introverts spend more time examining themselves, their thoughts, and actions than anyone else.

Actually, we do not have anymore time than other people do.  We just spend it doing different things.  Concert?  No.  I prefer sitting at home researching.  Shopping with the gals?  No.  I prefer sitting at home researching.

Or painting.

Or writing.

Or doing strange creative things.

We have the same amount of time.  We just do different stuff.

you sound like me! i'm still an introvert at heart (i'd much rather work
by myself than in a group, for example - but we're not going to put
that on our resumes, right? LOL)... but yes, my experience in retail
and just generally maturing outside of my family/home environment
has opened me up a lot.

i've learned that you become accepted by a group of people much
quicker when you're friendly and confident. "less selfish" - i like that
you mentioned that! i think of myself as less selfish now, too.

Funny, I never considered Introverts to be selfish.  I think it is more selfish to try to persuade a normally quiet person to be outgoing.  In fact, it is rude and does not respect the person.

True Introverts require some form of quiet, for physical and mental reasons.  To expect an Introvert to be anything other than who they are is selfish, in my opinion.

I am quiet, but friendly and not afraid to start up a conversation with anyone.  I just prefer to listen more often than speak as I find I learn a lot more that way.  My wife is definitely an introvert and it was quite a challenge to get to get her to open up when we first met 8 years ago.  She is funny, feisty, kind, and has a great personality, but it takes her some time to break the ice with new people and even then she would never be considered gregarious.  I don't prefer to keep company with overly loquacious people who just like to hear themselves speak, however most of my friends are more talkative than myself and that suits me fine.  It appears that my friends are likewise accepting of my more low key personality.

This was refreshing to read.  My husband and I are the same way.  When I meet new people, they rarely understand my need to just listen and observe.  It takes me some time.  Oddly, when my husband and I met, we blabbed for hours.  I would never do that with anyone.  I think that is one way we knew we were right for each other.   We have always been comfortable with one another's introvert-ish-ness.

I have complex partial seizures from TLE, and have often wondered if the two go hand in hand, at least in my case.  I think, for me, they may.

I love this video.  When watching this women talk, it is easy to tell that she is nervous as a mouse.  She is just darling to watch, though.  When she talks about camp - that was totally me.  I went to camp with my 6th grade class many moons ago.  I brought books.  Other girls brought make-up.  It was not a fun time.  Hahahaha.

I highly recommend this for the Introverts and their families and friends.

I'm an introvert although I can be more extroverted in situations where people expect it.  For some reason, many people (likely extroverts) seem to get upset if someone is quiet or not constantly talking.  I'm not really sure why people expect everyone to be just like them.
