Dear Home_Teachin',
I'm glad to hear you were able to talk to the housing authority & the kid's mother and your son is not being threatened anymore.  I do so hope this continues for you and him!  I like that you've enrolled him in karate, too.  Again, I'm not advocating outright violence, but karate teaches more than just the kicks and punches.  He will likely gain a more rational, thoughtful approach and he will have so much more confidence that anyone who approaches him is going to immediately be able to see he's not a pushover.  I hope with all my heart he never actually has to use karate or any other form of violence, but at least you've made him aware that there is, in some cases, a need for self-preservation.  Walking away & talking it out are good ways to deal with *some* situations...not all of them.
