im sad today
« on: May 20, 2013, 07:36:32 am »
So, we found an abandoned baby 2 week old baby raccoon last week.  I know it's a dumb idea to make it a pet, but we wanted to keep it a few days to show my husbands kids who had visitation this weekend as well as my 3 year old daughter that just loved it do death.  So we bottle fed it all week and it was the most precious thing ever to experience and this week we were going to try to find a rehab clinic for it to be returned to the wild.  Yesterday while we were grocery shopping i came home and heard my Jack Russell dog barking like crazy who i had locked up while i was gone as usual.  I came in and there's the baby raccoon dead in the living room and my door broken where the dogs were and my stupid dog acting like he did something good. There was raccoon hair everywhere and it was so sad and my daughter had her first experience with "a dead pet".  She kept asking when her raccoon was going to wake up and asking if she was broken. And saying we need to fix her and be quiet she's sleeping for now.  And she cried.  My 3 dogs are the most disrespectful dogs i've ever had.  I've never had dogs that refused to pee outside every time.  I've had them 4 years!!! They pee outside, but they'll pee inside.  They have a doggie door so no excuse.  Just rude. This was just the last straw with them so i put an ad on to get rid of them.  I got a call from a family that wanted all 3 within 30 minutes so i didn't even have time to change my mind.  That was hard in itself because i loved my dogs still.  So we lost all our dogs and saw a poor baby raccoon after being mauled. My daughter was ok with giving the dogs a new home but very upset about the baby raccoon.  I was upset at it all.  I was sad at the raccoon that didn't even get a chance, my dogs being jerks to where i had to get rid of them, my sad daughter, and my own sad thoughts.  Thanks for listening.  I just needed to vent.  I hope the rest of this week gets better.

Yeah I've had this happen before, especially when I was younger.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, but I'm stunned that you gave up your dogs.  Please don't call yourself an animal lover because you are not.  First, the raccoon is a wild animal - they do NOT belong in a home.  How do you know it was disease free?  Suppose it had something and bit your daughter.  Second, your dogs just did what was a normal dog thing.  Sure maybe it's wrong, but it's normal.  Did you ever see a cat kill a bird, how about a mouse?  That's not right, but it's normal.  I have 5 dogs, and sure they get me mad at times, but I would NEVER consider giving them up, and to a stranger no less.  I hope you can sleep tonight putting a raccoon over your dogs, and I hope your dogs are in a good home, not being abused or sent to a lab for research.

It happens and that is the animal instinct and they where trying to protect you and your children the dogs where not disrespectful they just didn't know.  They to are like children no matter how old they get there job is to protect there family from outside intruders weather its a raccoon or someone breaking into your house.  I suggest when you get another pet get it as a baby and you can train them to go outside.  All my dogs go to the door when they want out and they play with the kittens that were dumped and sometimes they play to rough and I have to get on them just like children.

as to Nancy's reply.  How dare you call me a non animal lover for one lady. I've adopted 5 or more dogs from the pound in my life because i can't stand the fact of seeing them not in a loving home.  I had 4 cats i didn't need because they didn't have homes.  I've had birds and hamsters and gerbils and rabbits. (obviously not at the same time) I cry when the aspca commercials come on tv because i can't even stand to see a suffering animal and if i won the lottery, i'd donate money to animal shelters before other charities so you can take your bad attitude to some other lonely callous person like yourself.  I didn't give up my dogs BECAUSE of the raccoon incident.  That was my final straw to years worth of trying to potty train even though they had access to a doggie door and still pee and poop in my house on my new carpet that now stinks when it's hot outside.  We work too much to give them the attention that they need and i can't afford to take them to even clean their teeth. They act wild because they don't get the attention they deserve and when i found someone who wanted my dogs, i met them, seen their environment and slept incredible last night knowing that finally they will get the care and love they deserve because love alone isn't enough Nancy. I live in a tiny mobile home with a tiny yard and the new people are living like kings They gave me their address and phone number so we can visit them whenever we want. They deserve better than what i had and they clinged to the new people instantly.  So thanks a lot for turning my sadness to frustration with people who are ignorant.  You nasty lady. Everyone else.........thank you so much for your support and kind words.

and to add to my last comment......the raccoon couldn't bite my daughter because it was so little it had no teeth and drank a bottle and i was taking it to a rehab which was best...maybe you would have just watched them die...i don't know.  And to say your sorry but.......you're fake

Sorry....you still are not an animal lover.  If you live in a tiny house with a tiny yard you don't have 3 dogs.  Dogs need a place to run and play.  So you cry at commercials from the SPCA, that does not make you a pet lover.  Did you ever think perhaps you should train your dogs to go outside, a doggy door means nothing if they don't get the idea to go outside.  Perhaps you should stick with cats, I have those too and they are easier to train.  And by the way ALL my pets are rescues, some from puppy mills and a lot from down south.

Also....you replied you give them lots of attention, but your next sentence states they are wild because they don't get the attention they need?  Which one is it?  I believe when you get a pet, dog, cat, bird, hamster, etc. you have to realize the cost this pet will bring with him.  If you cannot afford the animal -  you should not have it.  If the teeth are not cleaned are they up to date on shots, etc?  I'm glad they are in a home with a yard and a family who loves them and in time will bond with them.

I think you did the best you could do.  My sister has a dog who is awful but when you are working with her one on one she is a good dog. My niece I have her dog and she is wonderful but my sisters boyfriend made her give it away or something he didn't care but she had to be gone by the time he got home.  She needs the attention that someone can give her one on one which I can and she is doing great.  I am so glad that you made sure they went to a good home rather than dumping them off and starving.  You did the right thing all animals are different like I said before, we have to do what's best for the animal and I wouldn't worry about what others that says bad things.

thanks blondie. You seem to get it.  Nancy thinks she knows everything or something.  I've had a bunch of pets i've potty trained so i'm not an idiot on how it's done.  I trained my cats to use the doggy door too. I lived in a bigger place, my situation was better and now we are in a small stuffy place and i'm struggling.  She acts like i already lived in a tiny place, filled it with animals, installed a dog door and hoped for the best.  Some people just can't get over themselves. It annoys me.  I did what was absolutely best for my doggies and i'm going to visit them when it's practical.  I sent them with a huge bag of food and the stuff i had. These people have a HUGE house with a HUGE back yard kids and 5 other dogs that all seem very well taken care of.  Very nice people so I'm happy for the situation. Nancy must be a miserable person.

Poor you, you have no idea what you are talking about.  You cant afford your pets, then don't have any, all a pet needs is love, food, water, shelter, and vet care.  Now you are going to get me kicked out of the forum.  Gee the power you have!  This can go on and on.  Just let it drop, you and I don't agree and never will.  I have not stooped to name calling as you have, which shows total lack of immaturity on your part..are we still in school?  I am a grown up who has different ideas than you, this is called a discussion.  People will always disagree on certain things that's life.  I'm glad your dogs found a good, loving home.

yep you just don't get it....maybe your life has been just perfect. Guess people that move and the landlords don't let you have pets forcing you to get rid of your pets are bad people too.  I just call it like i see it rather than beat around the bush pretending like you know everything. You obviously have nothing better to do to keep checking for replies in here. How sad you are.

I can say the same about you, you seem to answer my replies very fast.  People who have to move are a totally different situation, that is different and something they have no control over.  Have you decided when you will get me kicked out?  The power you have, or think you have makes me laugh.  Now why don't we just both drop this and move on.
