My dog ate foil,
« on: May 22, 2013, 10:51:07 am »
aluminum foil I had cooked chicken and left the pan with the foil on the counter so this morning the pan was on the floor and no foil in it. It was about the size to wrap a piece of pizza and cheap foil thinner then Reynolds wrap. I went to ask about the problem and people said wait to see it in his poop i'll get my son on that one, also to give him white bread he ate that fine. he has eaten weird stuff be fore like a good size paper towel, and chicken bones so now we'll just wait.anyone have a similar experience with their dog.

I can relate my dog lives for trash diving, cheese tacos, his blanket, and eggnog other then that he is a healthy dog/puppy

If I were you I would be taking your dog to your vet. I don't think that is a good thing for your dog to eat. it could kill your dog if not removed surgically. Please let us know how your dog is doing.

Forget about dogs eating the wrong stuff. What about humans eating the wrong stuff? Be careful the next time!

I had a golden retrieve/black lab mix that was a 90lb eating machine. She would scarf her food(3cups of dry) then go over and push her 40lb pup out of the way to inhale hers and then turn around to me and blech and ask for more. She took grapefruits off the tree once they ripen(don't ask me how she knew, she was general a day or 2 ahead of me from picking to make juice) carry the grapefruit across the yard where she could see me through the kitchen window, place it between her paws and start pulling the rind off to eat the grapefruit inside. I have seen her take a fairly large ham bone and crack it open to get at the marrow and chew and swallow the rest of the bone. She ws a Bemouth when it came to food! :cat:

The only serious danger I can think of with the ingestion of the foil would be lacerations to the stomach and intestines, which could be quite serious if sever enough. More than likely your pooch will let you know if it is suffering, keep an eye on her for distress, and do check the stools for the foil remains AND blood. small amounts of blood might not be much of a concern unless it continues to occur. Small lesions should heal on their own fairly quickly. Large amounts of blood call for a Vet visit as the dog could have serious internal bleeding, DON'T wait to see the vet if you discover serious blood amounts.

Best wished to Fido, and at least you are now on notice that it is a food thief! Keep things out of reach! :)

I have never had that problem.  However, I recall a couple of instances where the dog ate dinner literally.  One involved my cousin.  She cooked her Thanksgiving dinner when I was a child.  She came to visit my grandmother and me, and went back home to discover that the next door neighbor's Saint Bernard had knocked off the pan holding her dinner and eaten it.  She was not a happy camper, believe me.  Another involved my ex-husband's aunt.  She cooked a ham and it disappeared off the top of the stove.  She had a dog who ate the ham because she left the back door open.  I still do not see how a whole ham get eaten and you are in the living room and the kitchen is about two feet away.  I am sorry to hear about your dog, and I hope everything turns out all right. :dog: :dog: :dog:

I worked at an animal hospital so I've seen dogs that have eaten just about everything. I think one of the funniest was this dog ended eating all these teenagers weed and they were trying to convince us to help the dog without actually telling the parents what happened

Dogs are something else - my little dog hasn't been feeling good & we think she got into something at my mom's house but we don't know what or for sure.  We love her so much and she seems to be getting better so fingers crossed everything will be ok with our dog and the foil eating dog.  :dontknow:

I've got a dog that loves to eat dryer sheets.  She seems to poop them out just fine.  I think I've managed to keep them away from her since I learned how tasty they appear to be.  Keep a close eye on the dog for a few days. Hopefully she will be fine. Good luck.

A lot of dogs will eat things that they really shouldn't (like poop... I heard puppy do that because they're curious, wanting attention, etc)... It will be best to visit a vet to make sure that the foil doesn't mess up your dogs stomach, just to be safe... Never know
