Are you afraid of change?

Some people have it hard and don't try to better themselves and it's not like they aren't intelligent enough or don't have means to do so they just simply are afraid of change. I work with a girl who is one of those people and when she's asked to learn something new at work she is set in her ways and wants nothing to do with it. She's very smart but chooses to stay in the same position at her retail job instead of going to school or trying something new. I know I'm sometimes guilty of feeling that way as well, change is scary and sometimes you lose memories and people you care about along the way. So I was wondering who else was afraid of change and to what extent.

There is a slew of personalities out there regardless of their intelligence level. Some people are just more ambitious than others. Some of the influence can be traced from how the person was raised and how they might have been influenced by those the person hanged around with. Sometimes people like this need an extra nudge and encouragement to push forward, but then there are people who can also be satisifed with comformity and cannot be forced. I've been looking for change myself, but I worry I might be falling in this dead end cycle too. I like to make excuses about the economy, personal family restraints, etc., but I really should stop making excuses and accept a little more risk and be confident in moving forward.

It is human nature to be resistant to change. People simply enjoy finding a routine in life that works for them and pretty much sticking to it. This does not mean that change is NOT good. It is necessary for all people at some point in their lives to seek new and exciting avenues. I found those times to be when I was younger; when going to college was somewhat affordable, when traveling was less expensive, when the world was a little bit safer to take a chance on things. It's a lot harder today, as opposed to 40 years ago, to make the changes we sometimes want or need to. So am I afraid of change? Probably more so today and much less when I was younger.

Depends on what kind of change.  I don't usually like change at work, because my history is that change at work usually is code for more work for no more pay.  Call my cynical, but I can't think of very many changes at work that were in my favor.

Other change is good.  Like making behavioral changes.   Well at least sometimes they are.

I think it depends on the change. I like change from time to time. But I remember when I was working, sometimes the changes they instilled were not exactly good. And therefore things would not work out right. But, all in all, especially on a job we have to go with the flow and learn it. I have done my share of learning new things at work. It does work out in the long run. I am hesitant at first, I am one of those people that need to know how it all works before I commit to change.

Some Times Changes Can Be Confusing.  I Like To Be Given A Chance
To Get Prepared For Changes.  First Of All, I Would Like To Be Informed And Have Someone Explain All
Of The Details Of The Changes.

Change can be very scary. But, at this point in my life, if given the chance to change I definately change

Not at all.  Change is a good thing, if you ask me.  You need to open up new doors in life to see what they have in store for you.  My wife, on the other hand, seems to abhor change.  Her company overworks her and pays her way below the going rate in our area for what she does, yet she's afraid of starting a new job and/or moving somewhere else if an opportunity arose there.

Maybe it's not that she is afraid of change but maybe she likes not having any more responsibility than she has now.

I don't like change, usually. I am looking for a new job, and a house in a different state, so I guess I don't mind change that I initiate. But I don't like changes that other people do, especially at work. Every time they change something at work, it make the job more inefficient. And the change pushed by Obama is even worse.
