just started a job
« on: August 10, 2013, 06:00:28 am »
The company in my apartment building hired a new chef for our dining room a week ago.
One of the wait staff told me he went on a trip for a few days.
I never could do that when I was working years ago.
.....start a job and then take off just a week later.

It's not unheard of, really.  I would assume the chef informed the company of the need to take that time off (for whatever reason) before he/she was hired.  I've seen that happen before where there was a scheduled trip, non-refundable tickets - and the timing of the start date was before the trip was scheduled...and the employee hired fully disclosed this during the interviews.

Typically when this happens, they won't be getting any other vacation the rest of their probationary period.
