Yes my dog understands me and my hubby. but there are times when he gets out of hand just like a teenager. but the overall he is the best dog we have ever had and yes he understands. because if he misbehaves he goes right to his corner and stays there until we say come out. and if he wants a treat he will sit there and stare at you until you give him one and if he doesn't deserve because he didn't finish his dinner I tell him when you finish your dinner you will get one and he will finish his food and then come back to get his treat.

My cat understands perfectly what I tell her.  She just chooses to ignore me.   ;D

The average dog (average in intelligence) can understand about 100 individual words! Think about that for a second... how many words can your dog understand? Probably less than 20!! The problem is that very few people LEARN how to teach their animal while it is young, their learning curve is directly related to how demanding you are with them. Dogs can 'understand' phrases, don't know exactly just what the 'get' in a phrase, but I can tell my setter to 'go to garage' or go to bed' and many other 'go to ...' commands and he will comply with that specific instruction. People indeed do not understand the depth of what dogs can learn. Dogs have instincts that are almost uncanny, some can detect a coming spate of illness, like a person about to faint, even detect diseases! These are amazing creatures!

Some breeds are extremely intelligent, Border Collies, Poodles, and practically all the hunting and working breeds that are close workers with their human counterparts are capable of learning two hundred or more words!

God blessed the human race with these animals, not to exclude other companion animals at all, but dogs are definitely unique in this world, they will give their life for you and love you without conditions. :)

I honestly believe that animals are smarter than we give them credit for. I have a small dog that is my very best friend and he understands everything I say. He will even talk back to me when I ask him a question. He will vocalize certain words and people think I'm crazy when I talk about it. He has a stuffed dog that we refer to as Girl Friend, when I get her and hold her up he will start saying that he loves her and he wants her. He will say it clear enough that anyone can understand what he is saying. He is a character and he keeps me laughing. There is never a dull moment with Mr. Man around. I have thought about doing a video and posting it to Youtube just so others can share in some of the laughs. :)

I talk to my animals all the time ... and yes I think they understand body language and the tone of my voice.

But I always know that they love me and are always happy to see me come home .. the most unconditional love that you can ever experience.

I am pretty sure my cat -- which is a bengal cat -- understands me farily well.  She doesnt bother me when I am upset.  She tends to follow me from room to room, but also seems to know when I may not want to be followed or bothered.  She comes when I call her.

I had a dog in the past as well and was more iffy if he actually understood me.

I personally believe pets of almost every kind understand us.  I have 3 cats and each one understands me in his/her own way.  One of them, the girl, actually answers me!!!

My dog knows me all too well.  There are some things we can't even spell around him any more because he knows what we are talking about!
Have a wonderful day!

My chickens let me know when they've run out of food and/or water. They follow me around the yard even when all their needs are met. They also sit next to my kids and let them talk to them. Though they have a smaller mental capacity than regular pets, there is probably a lot more going on inside their heads than I give them credit.

You can find me on Youtube!
