I need help on having my own site to sell items
« on: August 20, 2013, 10:22:31 pm »
Does anyone know how to build a site where I could sell collectables and other items? I use to have my own collectable store and when i closed it down I still have a lot of items I would like to sell.  I have never had my own website and I don't know how to even get started!  I could really use some advice on this.

Have you looked into selling on a place like eBay or Etsy?

From what I have learned about internet selling I would agree with the above poster about trying to market through an existing internet concern. The reasons I suggest that is the sheer time and cash you need to invest to do it all on your own. Creating a site to sell from is not all that difficult but there are a LOT of details to be dealt with, from picking a domain server to getting set up to accept credit cards and a host of other details. Each step has a cost and investment of time. If one is going to set up like this I think it should be done on the grounds that it will be an ongoing business for quite a long time. If one is just unloading a few items, and that could be up to 1000 pieces I think, and there is no plan to continue as an ongoing enterprise beyond that goal it will most likely be a lot less headaches and expenses to sell on ebay or like sites. :D

You would probably be better off going thru ebay.  Setting up a website isn't that hard but you have to have a host and could end up paying quite a bit and then getting hits isn't easy.  If you use ebay you will get a lot more traffic.
How to set up a website isn't something I can answer on here. lol.  I have set up several and I use FrontPage to design my site.  Then go thru ATT to actually publish it.  You also are going to have to have a way for people to pay you.  If you have your own website and sell stuff that way you will have to figure out how people will pay you.  A lot of people will want to pay with a credit card and YOU would have to be set up to accept them.  If you use ebay they take care of all that.  Good luck.

I sell (fashion jewelry) through Ebay because the site already has a platform and I don't have to do any promotion to make sales. Good luck!

Opening up a website for a store is beautiful idea. Now if you want a easy route i would go through ebay or amazon to sell because those two sites are for sellers and buyers and its pretty secure. Now on your own store if you do not choose to go through ebay or amazon i would have to say it depends on the money you are going to put into it and your experience with code. There are alot of free sites out there that do have templates for a nice neat start on websites that does make it alot easier to actually make your own website if you have no experience. Now if you have no experience there are some really neat websites also with the same features probably more in detail and personalization for you. I would give some thought into it though. I would spend some time on google and really search if this is what you are wanting to do. I wish you the best of luck in your website search and in your selling.

I know a site you can do this on and its easy to do to. You can open a free store front put your own products up, easy to use website with free site builder on it you promote it and if u want you could still sell through sites like ebay and amazon. Since links are not allowed i suggest look up VSTORE exactly how i have it typed. Hope this helps you

I think ebay is your best bet because you will have people looking for you instead of figuring out how to drive traffic to your site.

I think ebay is good but you have to put time into it. iwas thinking of selling things around the house  I have a Minnie Mouse doll it's very cute. I went on ebay and there are 139 people selling Minnie mouse dolls most had no bids, a few of the oldest dolls had bids, but i'm thinking mine would just sit there. Might try something else like comic books umm.
