why do men or women rape

i was raped 4 times over a 5 year period and it was my step father that did it but back then when i was a child they didn't do any thing but give him 5 years of therapy and 5 years of probation i still have nightmares about it and the last time my dad saw me i asked him why he did this too me and all he said was he didn't know i went for many years hating him and still to this day there is some hate inside me but i was just wondering if anyone else has gone threw this and why do people raped when there are so many people out there that are willing to give it up or they can get a prositute and pay for it

I am so sorry for the horrible things that happened to you. I wish I had the answer to your question. I was a rape counselor while I attended college many years ago. There are cruel people in this world and you have every right to never speak to your step-father again. The scars may never heal.

I am not sure why it happens, it makes them feel powerful and in control and that excites them as far as I can tell

To answer this Question.. There is no Good Reason Or excuse. This world is a cold cruel place at times and people this day and age are not in the right state of mind. Some are not to blame because that is probably how they got treated and in turn they think it is ok to do.. Some Don't know at all while others say the person wanted it( which is in their mind of course).Rape is becoming more common now a days and its the sad reality that the world is not what it use to be.

Wow that takes courage to share sorry to hear... it is a control factor with rape

First, I am sorry this happened to you.  I have asked this same question myself and the response I received was it is a control thing.  They don't want it from somebody who is willing to give it to them.  They want to have control over somebody.

This is true.  It's hard to agree that it's a true statement and you have every right to hate him but as long as you hold hate in your heart you are still giving him control over you.

In response to "this" comment...raping a virgin will cure them of some disease they have caught? Wow.  I had never heard that one.  But nothing surprises me.  And they can't really believe that.  Although raping a "virgin" so THEY are the first I can see.  And that goes back to the control thing.

thanks for all the responces that i got my only solace is that he will never be able to do this ever again because he passed away 10 years ago and even now i see a therapist but i no it may me a stronger person i dont no if i will ever forgive him for what he did and i won't ever get the answer

Well that's a sad story but the answer for the question in general well, Pleasure, Anger, enjoyment and so on but there is no real excuse for it and it's wrong in my opinion.
