hair dye anyone?
« on: June 18, 2009, 12:31:24 pm »
Is there anyone whom had any bad experience with hair dye have you tried doing it on your own and then getting a shade very far from the one you were expecting...  maybe ended up with a yellow instead of blonde a orange or rust instead of auburn a blue instead of black.

that happens to me ALL THE TIME, but for some reason, i still end up always doing it myself. It is so much cheaper to do it yourself instead of go to a salon.

I have to make sure no hair-dye i use has any auburn or red tint in it, cuz that will be the only color that will show up. I have brown hair with red tint that comes out in the summer, so i cant use any hair dye that has any red in it.

If your trying to go blonde, i would strip it first so it wont turn out green or watever!

Putting off hair dye as long as possible!  Never done it, not even the shampoo one!

I've never actually had a bad experience with hair dye. There was one time that the dyejob turned out not looking like I planned, but in the end, it looked better than it originally would have. I guess I got lucky.

i've been dying my hair for about seven years now,
and i've always done it myself (or with the help of a friend)
and the only time i wasn't satisfied was when i went with
a darker shade. which ended up a VERY darker shade.
it was a dark plum red and i'm very pale, so it washed me out completely.

i didn't care for it, but it was an alright change at the time i suppose.

i've never really had one of those extreme freak out moments
with hair dye though, luckily! i'm naturally redheaded and
i keep my hair a few shades darker because i think its just
too orangey otherwise...

i've been tempted to spring for BLACK before.
its a good thing that i second guess everything i do  :P

i've never had anything too bad/serious happen with mine.. i've been a bottle-blonde since i was 9 years old (chya, i know O_o) which would be around 13 years now. well, wait, let's backtrack for a second ;p i was BORN with blonde hair.. and as i got a bit older it started turning dark, which i couldn't stand, so i begged my mother to let me start dying it. when i was 9, she finally gave in.
so anyway! when i was 19 i got the bright idea to go brunette for a change, just to see how well it would fit :( cloudsoup was right there with me.. in fact, drove me to the hair appointment.
i got some blue chunks on my shortest layers and it looked pretty nifty/cute for a couple of weeks. but they faded out much more quickly than they were supposed to. and as my roots started growing out, they were a LIGHTER shade of brown >_< and i felt so horribly ugly and not myself. i was so depressed. i tried using some semi-permanent stuff to cover it up. but chesnut brown ended up looking red on my already too-light roots. i used dawn dish detergent to strip out as much as i could. and then i had to leave it alone for WEEKS.

and eventually i got it back to normal. and i'll never, ever, never do that again.. ever ;p my blonde is staying right where it is.

I had an experienced hair dresser screw my hair up so bad it felt like weeds coming out of my head. The only thing that fixed it was a good dose of Bed head products.

My brown-haired sister tried to dye hers blonde, and it somehow turned red. Funniest day of my life. LOL.

i had every color when i was a teen. PLUM - my parents wouldn't take me any place in public with them. black and then i stripped that out which turned orange and the kids in school called me carrot-top for a while.
after summer, i put in a honey brown because the sun does a number on my hair...blondes and greys. the home products are getting better. when i add color now - my hair feels softer and healthier.

I color my own hair all the time with no problems. If you are a dark color and wanting to go really light (blonde) I would go in and have it professionally done. Darker hair has hues of green and red that will come out when you go to a lighter color. Store bought hair dyes do not help to prevent that.

I have in the past. But I have gone to school for cosmetology. And everyones hair color is different and each has it's own under tone. The under tone of your natural color hair determines the outcome of your color. When you have those problems it is always a good thing to let someone that knows about it to apply it.You have to use other colors in the color formula to cancel out those unwanted colors and tones. So if your under tone is green you have to add a little red to the color formula. If you don't know the undertone color of your hair than it's best to ask someone in that profession.I suggest if you have green undertones to see a cosmetologist.Even though some of them may not know.Thats why it is always best to reasearch and ask more than one cosmotologist.

One time when I was 14 I dyed blue streaks in my hair, it was totally cute looking, not wild or freaky, but when it came time to dye my hair back to normal i bleached the streaks out like literally 5 times, i had to go in and get them professionally stripped then dyed back to brown and my hair was frizzy for a few weeks.

ugh no more hair dye for whacky colors!! I learned my lesson... hair extensions from now on!!
