What a stupid political stunt the House Republicans are pulling. It's backfiring on them big time.

How exactly do you believe it is backfiring? Not much evidence of that.

Every single poll you can find on it.

Polls? And polls mean what exactly? Are you talking about the same polls that show that the majority Americans oppose Obamacare? Please. Polls show that the majority Americans disapprove the way all parties are handling this, which includes the Republicans, Democrats, and Obama.

Sorry but the blame of the government shutdown is massively on the House GOP, close to 70%, which is why they're already trying to pass a bill to reopen some parts of the government. Just like in the 90's, this stunt has backfired. How dumb is it to shut down the government over a law that's already funded and got enacted anyway?

It's about 63% disapprove of the Republicans handling of this, and 56% disapprove of the Democrats. But again, this move wasn't made to gain in meaningless polls. The Republicans shutdown the government in the 90's to bring about a balanced budget and they eventually got that. Backfired? No.

This has just gotten ridiculous. Obamacare is a law now, and this shutdown is just a desperate move to try to get rid of it. I think it should be illegal for them to do this.

So, did anything change in your daily lives now that the government shutdown? Probably not. Nothing to get worked up about.

So, don't care about something unless it affects me? Sorry, I'm not that selfish. That's just an utterly screwed up way to see things. Also, we're talking one day here. You don't wait until things get worse and then deal with them. For the sake of mankind, don't give anyone advice.

I think it is time to do away with the Democrat and Republican parties.  Seems like they can't agree on anything if it is a "democrat" or "republican" idea.  Congress is worse than a playground of children ~ small children ~ who haven't learned how to play well with others.
Have a wonderful day!

If we don't have health insurance by 2014 we will be fined a certain amount and I guess the fine will get bigger and bigger each year, the IRS will be the one to oversee this new program...and we all know how they operate.....now my situation is, I'm a single mother who works outside the home, I qualify for food stamps but can't get m'caid.....I can't afford to pay for insurance outta pocket, what am I to do, and all those who fall in the same bracket as me? Now I am for affordable insurance coverage, but the key word is "affordable"......this is a no win situation for the citizens of this so called free country.......I'm glad the Republicans have taken a stand for what I feel is right.....

Not the intention of my comment, but judge away. We have people acting like doomsday is a foregone conclusion, so I simply asked people to take a look around and see how this affects them. Do you really believe everyone that is getting worked up is simply a selfless individual? I don't have such delusions when it comes to society. Or, are they simply buying into some of the doomsday media reports? I'm suggesting that people actually think for themselves and develop their own opinions.

Considering that this all beyond their control and most aren't willing to anything about it regardless, why get yourself worked up over it when it doesn't affect you? People have enough to worry about. Worrying about something you can't change or are willing to try to change, is simply wasted energy.

There were not many problems before Boehner got himself in it as the Speaker of the House.  Then suddenly we heard that "the government is broke".  The Republicans just closed down the Government, and that is serious.  I hear nothing about Boehner or the rest of the people in the House of Representatives giving up their paycheck.  The only thing they care about is that they have Obama's back up against the wall.  We are the ones suffering out here because we elected them into office and they have big swollen heads because they suckered us into it. ??? ??? ???

I take your point that if people are being made to believe that this affects them directly, they should actually take a breath and see if that's reality or not. My point, however, is, even if they find that nothing has changed in their lives, it is still not "nothing to get worked up about". Government should not "work" this way and if anyone is affected negatively, everyone should be concerned.

You're making assumptions by the way. You can craft your own opinion and still be "worked up". Aside from the local news, I don't watch "news" networks because 24 hr news shows are more show and less news. So what you're saying doesn't apply to me and many others. My concern comes from being tired. The saying isn't "the bale of hay that broke the camels back" it's "the straw...". This doesn't have to be armageddon, it just has to be stupid enough to say enough is enough.

Considering that this all beyond their control and most aren't willing to anything about it regardless, why get yourself worked up over it when it doesn't affect you? People have enough to worry about. Worrying about something you can't change or are willing to try to change, is simply wasted energy.

You can't say "this [is] all beyond their control" and then say "most aren't willing to [do] anything about it...". You don't know what people are willing to do and if it's something they can't control, their will doesn't factor in. However, you're wrong. Not being able to do something about it immediately doesn't mean nothing can be done. You stay concerned about it even when it passes and keep it in your mind when it's time to vote again.

The government does a lot of things they shouldn't. They shouldn't be running at these massive deficits, they shouldn't need to have debates about raising a debt ceiling to pay prior debts, and they certainly shouldn't shut down either. But they do. However, in determining one's own happiness, it's simply noise. I concern myself with things I can control. I refuse to get worked up about things beyond my control, and certainly refuse to believe I'm that I'm the victim. That gets you nowhere.

Agreed Burlapunderwear - I don't know but I think something is wrong with the whole picture.  I mean the President still gets paid.  Congress still gets paid.  It is just a mess but it always ends up the little person who is hurt.

Well according to what I'm seeing on MSN's website, the government has shut down. I voted for the first time in the last election, and frankly I'm beginning to wonder why the heck I even bothered. I am ALL FOR affordable healthcare. I don't know much about Obamacare, but what I do know seems like something us Americans NEED. It is completely ridiculous that that was the hanging point in the un-reached deal. Are we simple folk that insignificant to congress? I am just so darn frustrated, would be nice to be able to voice my feelings to our government, but apparently it wouldn't matter to them anyway.

I hate to break it to you but it isn't just Congress that is the problem - it's that inhuman, selfish, overbearing piece of work they call a President.  He has no desire to "negotiate" with Congress and he's like a spoiled brat - my way or the highway.  I hope to hell CONGRESS STICKS TO ITS GUNS AND SAYS TO HIM "STICK IT"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  But, in all fairness, WE NEED TO GET ALL OF THESE SELF-SERVING IDIOTS WHO SUPPOSEDLY "REPRESENT" US THE HELL OUT - THEY ARE ALL IN THERE WAY TOO LONG AND ARE WAY TOO COMFORTABLE AND ARE NOT SERVING "WE THE PEOPLE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that the government shutdown is stupid and that it is not fair to the people of the US.  I too am in favor of affordable health care, but I think it should be affordable to everyone.  I pay my daughter's health insurance and everything that I have checked into about her coverage is not going to be good.  I think her premium is going to go up again this year.  The premium for her insurance since she has had it has already gone up over $100.
