Well according to what I'm seeing on MSN's website, the government has shut down. I voted for the first time in the last election, and frankly I'm beginning to wonder why the heck I even bothered. I am ALL FOR affordable healthcare. I don't know much about Obamacare, but what I do know seems like something us Americans NEED. It is completely ridiculous that that was the hanging point in the un-reached deal. Are we simple folk that insignificant to congress? I am just so darn frustrated, would be nice to be able to voice my feelings to our government, but apparently it wouldn't matter to them anyway.

I hate to break it to you but it isn't just Congress that is the problem - it's that inhuman, selfish, overbearing piece of work they call a President.  He has no desire to "negotiate" with Congress and he's like a spoiled brat - my way or the highway.  I hope to hell CONGRESS STICKS TO ITS GUNS AND SAYS TO HIM "STICK IT"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  But, in all fairness, WE NEED TO GET ALL OF THESE SELF-SERVING IDIOTS WHO SUPPOSEDLY "REPRESENT" US THE HELL OUT - THEY ARE ALL IN THERE WAY TOO LONG AND ARE WAY TOO COMFORTABLE AND ARE NOT SERVING "WE THE PEOPLE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's true. Why do some people think only Republicans are supposed to compromise? (Of course they also think that "compromise" means give in totally.) The Republicans actually did compromise, by asking for a 1 year delay, instead of just getting rid of obamacare altogether, but that still wasn't enough for the Democrats. So while both sides are at fault, Obama and the Democrats are much more so.

The only reason this is happening is because of President Obama, if this was one of the Bushes it would not happen. I think everyone should have affordable health care, but I guess Congress think it should be only for the working class of people and some of them that work can't afford health care.  Thank God they won't have President Obama to push around anymore and who ever is President let them bash him and call him by his last name only instead of President .......whoever :peace:

You are so right.  The shutdown is embarrassing and ridiculous.  I hope the situation is resolved soon.

I've always thought we had such a great system here in the US but it seems that politics have ruined our country lately. All they do is fight for power against each other and ignore the welfare of the people who elected them. I am so sick of politicians who lie to us and only vote for increases in their own pay and benefits while vetoing anything that would benefit the public. I have always voted. But now voting is almost useless because it comes down to which politian will do the least amount of damage not who will help the country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so confused about it???  ??? I'm so poor it makes me sick I work hard at a retail job and just recently got promoted to management but the more money I make the less help I get and having 2 children I need all the help that I can get. I try hard to make as much money doing a job that I don't particularly enjoy just to know that if I quit today and just stayed at home I would have enough money to survive unlikely I do now. So I just recently qualified for medicaid and my insurance through work won't let me drop it. So, I'm paying for one insurance while getting the other one free, but what happens with Obama care??? Will I still get government help???? Will I get fined if I don't sign up for it??? I just don't understand

I was wondering if someone would post on this subject! My thoughts are with sooo many pages to the document, what are we missing in the fine print. I feel like the Pres is using strong-arm tactics to get his plan enforced and make everyone pay for healthcare. HIs party definitely wanted to shut down the Gov. I am glad that guards decided to let in veterans to visit the War Memorials, in spite of the barracades. The Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and many others are on a walkway around a park. I don't see why Americans should be prevented from seeing these icons of architecture. Seems like Obama just wants to hurt the Average Joe. Why?

So, did anything change in your daily lives now that the government shutdown? Probably not. Nothing to get worked up about.

No, nothing has changed in my life. I'm still receiving state-funded healthcare and food stamps, but I do know people who have been affected by the shutdown. One of them is in some branch of the Army and has been furloughed, so I assume he isn't being paid except by unemployment, which is at least a slap in the face when trying to support a family of four.
Just because it isn't affecting you, and it isn't affecting me, doesn't mean that it is the same for everyone else.
No, even though it's been a week and one "terrorist" attack later it still probably isn't much to get worked up about. But if this lasts much longer we ALL will start seeing a trickle down affect and it won't be pretty. Our economy was just barely starting to get better and we really didn't need this BS now.

To the rest of you...I haven't had a chance to read your replies, been a week without my computer and I have a LOT of catching up to do, but I will do so in the next couple of days, hopefully things are going as well as they can for you.

I think Obamacare will be great for the country.  It's sad that you have politicians who want to hold up progress and put a Government Shut Down burden on the very people they are suppose to be representing and helping.  My understanding is 50% of the Republicans and 50% of the Democrats wanted to vote to prevent a government shutdown but were not given the opportunity by John Boehner to do so. This is so sad.  You would think in this day and age Republicans would be willing to work with Democrats for the good of the country and not for selfish game.  :(

I really don't understand what world you're living in. I'm not saying this to be antagonistic, I just really don't understand people that make these comments. Obamacare passed in 2010 and parts of it have already gone into effect, but it's to be fully implemented beginning in 2014. It's already law and it has been that for 3 years now. Do you not know this? So he's using strong arm tactics to do what? It has already gone through the constitutional process of becoming a law 3 years ago!

Republicans control the House of Representatives. The House controls the budget. If a budget doesn't get passed, the government shuts down because it's not funded. THEY refuse to pass a budget unless THEY get to delay Obamacare for another year. This is extortion. THIS is a strong-arm tactic. Obamacare is already settled law but they refuse to accept it and therefore refuse to do their jobs of passing a budget, but you come to the conclusion that it's the Presidents party at fault here? In what world?

Obamacare, whether you like the law or not, attempts to extend health care to millions of Americans. How is that an attempt to hurt the average Joe? I really don't understand what you're talking about.

The more stuff that goes on with this shutdown/congress/president/laws rules/political/society-world, the more stupid crazy it seems. Stuff that don't even make sense for people to do and rules that don't help or programs that don't work. Most the time we can't control any of it and the unfairness can be overwhelming.
I'm glad I am confident God is in control and this world is not my true home.

Well we are insignificant to Congress because what happens to us doesn't affect them.  It is my understanding for one thing that they get paid their hefty salaries regardless and they get health coverage for life.  It could matter less to them what happens to us.

i like the idea of affordable healthcare.  i went years without going to the dentist and lost all my top teeth.  i went years without seeing eye doctor and now i'm legally blind, because vision and dental wasnt included in the healthcare i had at work, BUT, the idea of them being able to get into out bank accounts is not right.  it is a true invasion of privacy.  Mr. Obama is a good president, he needs to compromise and rework some of the plan that he is implementing.
