I saw this on the food network and it is awesome.  I think we used Italian bread.  Butter with the garlic butter spread and then press shredded parmasan cheese shredded into the butter.  Then use cheddar cheese, Swiss cheese, bacon Swiss or something like that it is sliced, jalapeņo, and provolone cheese.  Yes that's a lot of cheese.  But it is SO good.  You can sub your own cheeses.  Just different ones you like.  I never would have thought of this on my own.  It was funny cause me and my mom and my nephew all saw this and didn't know the other had seen it.  We also all had the same idea when we went to the grocery store.  Try it and you will never see grilled cheese the same way again.

I remember when my uncle introduced me to that idea.  Not had it that way in a long time.

You all have given me some good ideas.  I am getting hungry!

I butter the bread and place in the pan then add cheese then butter the other piece of bread and put it on top. mmmm! I also loved grilled peanut butter sandwiches made the same way (with peanut butter instead of cheese)

Wow I love peanut butter I will try that soon. I butter the bread and first put the bread in the pan with the butter side up so that the dry side will be hot when I flip it over, once I flip the bread with the butter side down I then put the cheese on the bread and flip the other slice of bread over on top of the cheese. Once brown on both sides I enjoy.

Grilled peanut butter?  That sounds kind of weird but also good.  I am out of bread or I'd fix me one of them right now.

Lol, how true! Lots of good ideas, thanks all for sharing! Last time I made grilled cheese I used my waffle maker. It turned out really good and goes so well with tomato soup.
