My step dad had throat cancer and he battled with it for years, it's gone now but he has to live through the side effects and it's been 15 years since then and he's still in pain often because of the left over side effects. Well there isn't much you can do really, my doctor said just try and be healthy and keep your body in check and look over your skin and get to know it in case of any strange bumps or lumps that might appear and as for a cure well it depends what type of cancer some cancer is fatal and some aren't if you catch it in the early stages.

I have/had what they call knee sarcoma. It started as a little lump which grew until it covered my whole knee. I've had 2 operations: one to take the "meat" and cancer off my knee where my patella (knee cap bone) was totally exposed for a week and then the second operation cut a muscle from my leg and laid it over the knee and had a skin graft to cover that, then 30 days of radiation. All in all, 3 weeks in the hospital and still doctoring every 4 months and have a CT scan of the lungs every 4 months to make sure it doesn't come back.  They said I was cancer free about 5 times so far and, according to a web site, my sarcoma was a very aggressive type (I'll vouch for that. It took over my knee in 3 months) but very, very rare. It usually goes into the bone and when that happens, the chance of losing the leg is 99%. Mine was caught just in time.  If I hit 2 years being cancer free, I might just be okay. Five years is better.

So many things can cause cancer and I kinda don't believe anything about the antioxidants keeping it away anymore. We eat a lot of tomatoes in various forms along with other fresh veggies that are supposedly antioxidants. I do believe it's due to the insecticides and pesticides used on veggies and in the homes (spray stuff we use), plastics and/or any products made from oil, etc. People years ago didn't get cancer like today and they didn't have all these plastic products, either. In fact, I just read an article about dog toys made of vinyl making pets sick and/or to the point where they die. It seems that if you use any consumer goods anymore, you're chances are pretty good for getting some type of cancer unless you have an overly strong immune system.

Some experts say your diet and lifestyle play a huge part, but I seem to think that environment has a lot more to do with it than just diet and lifestyle alone. I don't why the scientists can't narrow down the causes of some form of cancers. It's mind boggling to say the least. :-\

There are so many different cancers.  A close friend's mom is now battling breast cancer.  Sadly, she has recently been told that the cancer has spread to her liver.  Please keep her in your prayers.  Thank you so much.

I don't believe that anybody knows the exact cause of cancer. I know many people who suffer from many different forms of cancer but honestly don't have a clue about what caused the cancer. I know generally healthy people who choose a healthy lifestyle who are cancer survivors. Even a healthy lifestyle doesn't protect you from cancer.

I think that there is a huge population that would give anything to know the answer to your question...sadly. My wife had cancer six years ago and is a survivor. It was a horrible time and I didn't realize the effects it had until I shared night time prayers with my children...seven months into it. My daughter added a codicil to the normal nightly prayers...something to the effect of "please don't let Mommy or anyone else in our family get cancer and Thank you for making Mommy such a powerful warrior". I am reading the "China Study" right now and it really accentuates the correlation of cancer and diets rich in animal fats.

So glad to hear your wife is a survivor. That's fantastic.

As for the correlation of cancer and diets rich in animal fats.....the only way that could be true is because of recent changes in animal diets using GMO, antibiotics, growth hormones, etc.

When animals were raised by families for their own consumption and by local farmers for an income, those items were not available. When meat producers became big business corporations, growth hormones were used to quicken the pace of placing an animal to market earlier than usual. The above items are what I believe is the cause of cancer, along with many, many other diseases.

Honestly I think it has something to do with the crap the give animals and put on veggies to make them grow bigger and faster.  It's stuff they are putting in our foods.

I agree. They put a lot of junk in our food. Also there's a lot of crap in our air (pollution). Praying for all those fighting cancer.

Could be a hereditary thing. My mother passed away from Breast Cancer a couple years ago. So I will be keeping a close watch on myself and my daughter.

I question this all the time - whenever someone new announces they have cancer, my heart breaks for them.  My dad got cancer in his kidney when he was just 28 years old (I was 3). They removed his kidney and told my mum to take him on a relaxing holiday which she did. Months later, he was cancer free. The good news, he lived another 40 years before getting cancer in his second kidney, now that can't be a coincidence can it!  He finally did die from cancer when he was 69. Now, on the one hand, you might think oh how sad, but I don't see that. My dad was the best dad in the world and thankfully I got to experience that myself because he lasted another 40 years. Had he had died when I was 3, I would never have had the honor of getting to know him. He was such a wise, godly man and thankfully I can talk about him because I got to know him. Some people aren't that fortunate. God bless you all!
