No but I was close to needing it a few years back because my wrist got so bad that it hurt to just turn a door *bleep* or grasp and tug a blanket over me while I slept. Anyway I spent less time and when my wrist started hurting I would get off of the computer and for days at a time wore a wrist / hand brace and need stretches and stuff and I still spend quite a bit of time on the net but I take breaks and cut down on my gaming quite a bit since that's what flared it up originally was I played MMO's 24/7 back when I was in school.

I really come close to surgery, but moved from one job into another one where is worked and got away from working on computers all the time. Even now if i stay on the computer a long time my wrists wll hurt some, or if i am doing a lot of baking and all that stirring will cause a flareup.  So i just have to pace myself on everything including yard work.

I usually shoot for alternative options before considering surgery; even though, sometimes surgery is necessary.  I'd use herbs that are healing for the nervous system before taking steps to have surgery.  That's just my personal choice.

Sometimes switching the mouse to the other hand helps and putting it on top of my tower on the floor helps too. I just ordered a USB touch pad so I can sit back and run it on my belly and I think that will help a lot when I do traffic exchanges. I have one I surf 1,000 pages a day (or more) and it gets tight at times.

I always have a bean bag placed under my wrist to keep it in an optimal position. I've never had a problem.

I was diagnosed with bi lateral carpel tunnel. It's not in need of surgery and I don't think I would want it. I take care of it by using braces and resting and stretching.

Before you have surgery, try a magnetic bracelet.  A lot of people swear to their effectiveness against arthritis and other painful conditions.  With a little research you could find one that is not very expensive and it would certainly be a better option than surgery.  I could not say for sure that magnetic jewelry works as I use a bracelet mostly for prevention rather than as a cure, but I do not have arthritic pain and my mother had a severe case of it.  A friend is able to use his hand for all kinds of tasks now when before getting a magnetic bracelet, it hurt him to grip an item.

No I have never had surgery but there are many time I walk away from the computer to do other things like laundry, cooking, watching programs with my hubby, and taking care of our dog and bird. I have those magnetic bracelets and I wear them almost all the time. I truly believe that is why I don't have any pain in my hands. Sometimes I don't even realize I have it on because it is not tight just snug.
