would you allow your kids to play mature rated video games
« on: January 15, 2014, 06:19:02 am »
There a lot of good games out on the market that are for kids and adults, but there are also the less appropriate games for children such as Grand theft auto 5, Duke Nukem, Hitman Absolution. My question for all of you is would you allow them to play games such as the games I listed in the last sentence?

I guess it all depends on the child's maturity, the age and your level of supervision.  If you have a well rounded teenager with a good head on its shoulder, you set some boundaries as to when and where to play, for example, in my living room where I can see what is going on and how you behave with it, but you cannot play it at a friend's house with no supervision, then yes I would if I know for certain that they will follow my guidance.

but if you have a child with bad attitude to begin with, not so much mature and if I know that he/she can be influence very easy by something then maybe not.

Depends on why the maturity rating is there.
But for the most part, NO.
There is such a huge selection of games that are rated E and T that I just don't see the necessity.

I Never allowed my son to play violent games when he was under my care but he is an adult now so he plays what ever he wants.  I also never allowed him to play with play guns and toys like these.

My son is six years younger then my other son.I know he was playing or at least watching my son and friends play Grand Theft Auto about 10 yrs ago .At 22 now he is a fan of the game .He always says it's just a game and no one would really try stuff that they do.

I don't think some of the games on the marketshould be out at all. As for young ones playing video games, they should be out playing . I just don't think the games and sitting around playing them all day is good for any child. young or teens. If the teens have time to play gmes then they have time to be studying and or working. We have a generation of kids growing with no respect for anyone and i believe a lot of it has to do with the games and some of the tv shows.

It really depends on what age the "kid" is.  To my parents, I'm still a kid and yet I'm 24, so that plays a big part.  Honestly, most parents need to either watch a playthrough of the game or play it through themselves before handing it to their kids.  I've played some mature games that aren't that mature beyond swearing and then there are others where you watch some really intense, blood spilling scenes that I wouldn't want my young kids to see.

Honestly, if you go by the guidelines on the box, you should be fine.  Mature to 18+, Teen to teens+, etc.  And, as always, make sure you monitor your kids and make sure they don't spend all their waking hours playing games.  There are plenty of games out their that should appeal to your specific age group, so take a look at them, see if you can find a playthrough on YouTube, and watch some of it to see if there is anything you wouldn't want them to see.

One thing to realize is with the internet, preventing them from playing it doesn't necessarily mean they won't see what happens in it.  YouTube is a great way to see what a game is like and it seems like a lot of kids take advantage of it for one thing or another, so they might come across it on there.

yes.
the fact of the matter is they are going to run into things that aren't very appropriate for them eventually, whether it be at a friends house, etc.

Since my youngest is 32, I guess I would. I stopped by and he had his Xbox 1 hooked up to his 60" TV and it was gory.

No.  I have my grandson and he would not play those games.  He is 6.  These games should only be played by an adult.   ??? ??? ??? :rainbow:

WOW - This was a hot topic,  as some seem to have a great deal to say about it.  I am amazed at the ads I see for them and think they are really, really gory.  If I had children, I don't think I would allow them to play these games as they seem to make a reward out of killing.  Skill games would be okay to improve coordination and mind snap but the gore is just as unnessary and indicative of a degredation of our morals as it is in movies and tv.

I don't have any kids but if I did I would never allow them to play these type of video games.  That's why there is so much violence and school shootings happening in the world today.  The kids should be outside playing and getting exercise instead.

That depends on the level of content this is showing. My parents allowed me, but I'm kind of weird now as a result (just kidding). My daughter luckily isn't much into video games except what's on Facebook and some apps. on her phone, which tend to be family oriented, but if there were things she wanted with a mature rating I would be hesitant, but would not completely nullify the possibility.
