1) With lp prices through the roof, we have shut off the heat in the garage (at least vehicles are out of the snow and ice!) and turned our home temp down 3 degrees. It really is making a difference.
2) We have a plan and are pounding on 1 credit card (the smallest balance) and when that is paid off, we will make large payments on the next smallest one until paid off, etc. Saw this on a money show, instead of trying to make larger payments on all cards, pay minimums on all but 1 card and really pay on that one to get rid of it then, go to the next one and do it again! Almost have the 1st one paid off, hope this works!

Sound like a great plan for your credit cards.

I recycle when I can.  Don't buy a lot of packaged goods, like junk food.  Don't eat out much.  The food items I do purchase I try to get at least 3 meals out of it.  I don't drive.  Use cold water when doing laundry.  Come spring I will be growing most of my own vegetables.  Basically, I only buy what I need.

I changed all of my light bulbs over to energy efficient and save about $15.00 per month. Also I buy only what I need and not just buy just to buy.

I try to cut back on luxuries and stick to buying only what I need. Then once I've paid some stuff off I'll splurge every once in awhile. You can save a lot of money shopping at discount stores and thift shops too.

:clover: Yep, well when my hubby died last year and I lost almost half of my income I cut a lot of expenses, had no choice.  Got rid of cable tv completely for one thing.  Auto broke down so started using public transportation and thereby got rid of insurance, upkeep etc - couldn't afford extensive repairs needed anyway.  So on and so forth, do what you gotta do as my Granny would say.

Probably the single best way to reduce expenses is to physically WRITE down your expenses and include EVERYTHING no matter how small. In a very few days you will identify where you are literally wasting money on things you really could have done without. Pennies add up pretty quickly when you eliminate the 'extras' that are often taken for granted.

Good idea I'll have it a try.  Thank a lot for your tips.

Biggest thing I did lately was ditch cable TV and now use an antenna and Roku, which saves us over $100 a month. Then I cut my smartphone service to $19 a month for unlimited talk and text and have FIOS Internet with a wireless router, so my smartphone can use that when I am home (most of the time)..

Trying to reduce elec costs by just shutting off the darn lights and not leaving the tv on all day.  Also, I only buy what is on my grocery list and if it is not an essential item, I always skip it on the first list....like taco chips or soda pop.  I just try to be really careful about what I buy.

I've started going to the laundromat to wash my clothes, altho I have a washer at home. I turn off the lights when I'm not in the room and when no one's home, I turn down the heat/
